Brooklyn Nets suspend Kyrie Irving for failing to 'disavow antisemitism'

This is appropriate for this asshole

https://abcnews.go.com/Sports/brooklyn-nets-suspend-kyrie-irving-failing-disavow-antisemitism/story?id=92634035&cid=social_twitter_abcn
Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving has been suspended without pay for at least five games after promoting a film that contains "deeply disturbing antisemitic hate," the team announced Thursday.

"We were dismayed today, when given an opportunity in a media session, that Kyrie refused to unequivocally say he has no antisemitic beliefs, nor acknowledge specific hateful material in the film," the Nets said in a statement. "This was not the first time he had the opportunity -- but failed -- to clarify."

The decision comes a week after Irving tweeted a link to the 2018 movie "Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America" on Amazon Prime Video. The synopsis states that the film, based on a 2015 book of the same name, "uncovers the true identity of the Children of Israel." Several Jewish rights organizations, including the American Jewish Congress and the Anti-Defamation League, have denounced the film as antisemitic.

The Nets and Irving announced on Wednesday that each of them will donate $500,000 to the Anti-Defamation League.

It was bad enough that he got away with his anti-covid stance. Unfortunately, thief & sexual deviant Brett Farve, Fucker Carlson and a whole host of reich-wingned white, tReasonous, racist, rich tRump-supporting maggots will get away with all they do DAILY, and we know why.

Thank goodness for karma and the laws of the universe, which I truly believe in. I've seen a lot of it happen real time 👀

but he's relatively hands off when it comes to the Knicks. He's not going to hand out 300 mill for a superstar... but i guess i can understand that. How'd that work out for the Nets? Or the Lakers?

“To all the science teachers, everybody coming up to me like, `You know I’ve got to reteach my whole curriculum?’ I’m sorry,” Irving said, as the room attending his session laughed. “I apologize. I apologize.”

Irving said he’s since learned certain thoughts are best kept in “intimate conversations.”

This whole saga started in February 2017, when Irving questioned whether the Earth is flat on a podcast that came out shortly before All-Star weekend that year in New Orleans. It became a major story and even NBA Commissioner Adam Silver — who, like Irving, went to Duke — was asked to offer his opinion.

“Kyrie and I went to the same college,” Silver said then. “He may have taken some different courses.”

Irving indicated in the days and months that followed the podcast that he initially made the remarks to promote conversation and prove a point how stories in this social-media age can spread rapidly. But then he told The New York Times in early June of this year that he was not completely sure whether the Earth was flat or round.

“I do research on both sides,” Irving said at the time. “I’m not against anyone that thinks the Earth is round. I’m not against anyone that thinks it’s flat. I just love hearing the debate.”

Funny line from Comm. Silver.

And Irving says he does “research on both sides.” Yeah, the top of the earth as well as the underside.

I shouldn’t laugh. He’ll probably be a U.S. Senator in a couple of years.

Playing footsie with Nazi-adjacent garbage like this should get him drummed out of the league. You can still say whatever you want, Irving, you just don't get to do that and have a professional basketball career.

But no, he spoke to the media in meaningless, nebulous, goobly gook terms.

"Kyrie Irving statement: “To All Jewish families and Communities that are hurt and affected from my post, I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain, and I apologize."

Apology from a person attracted to conspiracy theories and who believes so strongly that he is the smartest person in the room is actually impressive and hopeful-- if only some of the MAGAs were more capable and could understand how deeply theu have been led astray by the propaganda and conspiracy theories they are fed..

on social media where any agent or lackey could have written it for him, he does.

How does a sane evaluation of the available evidence conclude this is "actually impressive and hopeful" or anything remotely like it?

If you think his Instagram post is a genuine reflection of his thoughts, why didn't he say those words several hours prior at the press event organized to address this very topic? He could have said this then. He did not. He said something very different.

Also, that "apology" has multiple notpology portions, so even what was posted was not impressive.
