(19,741 posts)The good news is young women are reacting to losing their reproductive rights. Hope they can convince their partners and buddies to vote as well.

(24,681 posts)... twenty people waiting for the polls to open at 7am.
A few differences: before the polls open, it's very dark outside at my precinct, and, in the line at my precinct, there is very little hair pigment.
Good to see young voters voting.

(5,130 posts)It works great in eight states and the military has used it since the Civil War. There's no reason not to do this except that it makes it harder for the Rethuglicans to fk with our elections.

(25,212 posts)deliberately vague and confusing. I have helped a number of college students navigate the stupid instructions this year. Several were about to give up in frustration, but I calmed them down and walked them through it.
For those tempted to condescend to these kids, I am in my 50s and have voted in every election I was eligible. I have voted in person on Election Day, in person early voting, and absentee ballot in four states. I have never seen such vague online instructions in my life. It took me a few minutes to figure out what the Supervisor of Elections' email to one of these kids was saying and the website was not much better. I don't fault novice voters for their frustration.
These kids are at school four to five hours away from their home counties where they are registered to vote....yep, solid red counties at that.

(17,518 posts)In Texas Governor Abbott moved or reduced polling places near student campuses so much that the 70000 students at Texas a&m have to go off campus for early voting 14 miles away.

This gives me hope, but I get so angry that those assholes are making it this difficult to vote in areas not infested with MAGAts.

(3,305 posts)why the media seem to be rooting for a fascist dictatorship. Are they already with straight out lying?

(4,412 posts)1. If the media can make it a horserace, it drives up ad revenues with both parties, both campaigns, and surrogates paying for air time.
2. The media are only as liberal as the corporations that own them. They and their anchors have different tax concerns than you and I.

(3,305 posts)Are they all right with lying? And I guess the obvious answer is "Yes, they are." All they care about is making a buck, or as many bucks as they can. They're not concerned with having to hew to a dictator's line, because they're already doing it for the most part; the free press is already an illusion.

(1,822 posts)IF there is a "vote here" on campus, IMO people will show up.
IF instead it's a bus ride to the nearest point, a five-minute walk to the voting place, another ten-minute walk to home...
Historically in my precinct, voting in person is a burden on those in the garden apartments who are dependent on mass transit.
The 2020 presidential primary was an anomaly, as more than a handful of those residing in the garden apartments SHOWED UP.
((I've sat out working at the polls since, didn't want to bring COVID home.))

(1,766 posts)Show me young people who aren't attending a college known for having high political engagement like UT. How about an Austin community college campus? Or Mary Hardin-Baylor University just north of there?
Or polling locations with young people who don't go to college at all?
I'd rather see real numbers, not wishful thinking anecdotes.
