First on CNN: The Jan. 6 committee has interviewed 2 more Secret Service witnesses over the last 2 days, including the then-head of former VP Pence’s security detail.

The 1/6 committee has previously revealed the Secret Service “was aware of increased chatter focused on Vice President Pence in particular.”

CNN has learned that Pence & his team were never briefed on those threats.

3. SS paid to protect high level officials, instead puts them in danger.

4. I'm glad Pence had the good sense to refuse to get into the car

while in the Capitol loading dock. SS certainly would have whisked him away, perhaps delaying or preventing the count. Given all of the deleted tweets, it's more worrying to wonder where they would have taken him, and whether he might have had an 'accident' on the way. I know that's speculation, but it was a crazy day. Not everyone tasked to protect the Capitol and the people in it were honest about the danger level and the precautions that should have been taken.

5. I haven't followed Republican inner politics closely,

but I'll be surprised if some conservative donors don't try to back a candidate other than Trump -- I hope they do, since I'm not feeling optimistic about Dem prospects for 2024.
