North Carolina Republican wants "rape panels" to decide whether victims can get abortions

Bo Hines pushes "community-level review" of whether individual survivors can terminate their pregnancies

https://www.salon.com/2022/11/02/north-carolina-wants-rape-panels-to-decide-whether-victims-can-get-abortions/

A North Carolina Republican congressional candidate floated a proposal to create a community review process that would determine whether survivors of rape and incest can get abortions.

Bo Hines, the GOP candidate for North Carolina's 13th Congressional District, wants to outlaw all abortions unless the mother's life is at risk.

"He wants victims of rape and incest to be allowed to get an abortion on a case-by-case basis through a community-level review process outside the jurisdiction of the federal government," local news outlet WRAL reported.

The proposal was widely panned by critics. Talking Points Memo editor Josh Marshall described the proposed review boards as "rape panels." "Something from a nightmare," wrote civil rights lawyer Sherrilyn Ifill.

The neighbors get some sort of gratification from all of it.
Back in the witch trials and now in the abortion trials.

Must be a real turn on to have control over young women.

How about we have panels to discuss proper punishments to those who go against our constitution like oh I don't know...committing seditious conspiracy against the US? That would be fun. We decide what the punishment is for those who do such a treasonous act.

Abortion is only the start of this despicable trend, and it's ironic considering that one of the concerns/issues that they claimed that Obama Care would create is medical panels reviewing every facet of our care, and here they are, actually doing it. They need to have this tossed into their faces and throw their own words back into their faces w/ what they said back when Obama was pushing Obama Care for Americans to be voted in. They don't even know their own despised history (repugs).

Just a room full of mostly older men asking a young woman to tell them all the details about her rape. And definitely not getting a boner over it either. No, they just want to help. That's all.

anything organized, like a panel. Hell, around here, there's no need for social media or telephones...word of mouth (true or not) spreads faster. That's why I stay to myself. Figure the folks around here think I'm a witch or something.

Republicans are in favor of killing living babies and have done so.

Pro-life to conservatives/republicans is a myth.

The supposed pro-lifers cared naught when the state of Texas (republican gov, republican Prez) deliberately killed living baby Sun Hudson against the mother's wishes because he was an inconvenience to the state.

It is not a matter of life to the supposed pro-lifers.

It is a matter of control.

When we moved to NC 6 years ago we were in NC-1 and represented by Butterfield (D). That year we were moved to David Rouzer's (R) district (5), then again in 2020 we were moved back into NC-1 with Butterfield again. Now we are in the new NC-13 which is less Democratic than the district was as District 1 with only about a 2 point Dem advantage in registrations (it used to include the Raleigh area). I just hope this knucklehead Hines loses to Wiley Nickel, the Dem and we are not saddled with a right wing nutjob for our rep.

this is an improvement over his original position which was a ban with no exceptions. Unfortunately he is slightly favored in his race (I live in an adjacent district). The district runs from Wake county (Cary, south Raleigh) all of Johnson County (very GOP) and parts of Wayne County (mostly Democratic parts). This district is a toss up but given the year not as much. If we win this district, then NC is likely to split 7-7
