Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMusk is apparently using Twitter as a tool to ingratiate himself with China and the American right
rather than being solely focused on making Twitter itself profitable.
Interesting thread from Andrew Gawthorpe, a professor of history and international studies who also writes for the Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/profile/andrew-gawthorpe
Gawthorpe calls this "a brief thread" but it's nearly 20 tweets, so this is the link to the page at Threadreader - https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1588506524045152263.html - and this is the start of the thread:

(45,014 posts)would gladly reward Musk to help them control their masses, even if it destroys Twitter. Especially if it destroys Twitter.

(10,174 posts)No business that wants to keep the public's goodwill wants to be associated with Muskrat's hellscape vision of Twitter. His groveling to Putin and the Chinese Communist Party isn't helping either.

(12,480 posts)Flock together. I do not want to live in a fascist world.
Capitalism and fascism cannot stand having alternative ways and people different from them.
Capitalism has ruined 3rd spaces where people can come together.
We have become so atomized we have an illusion of powerlessness and loneliness,
And a feeling we must compete all the time this ambient anxiety hinders people being socially active
,Plus work demands are insane.
Fascism is a joining corporate power with state power. With all its suffering to break us into accepting thier bullshit.
All part of the fascist plan
Except I see a fascist kakistocracy if the re turds win. Or cheat thier way to power.

(32,787 posts)China had a good economic run, now there are just too many things in play that are leading to their economic collapse

(32,086 posts)They're still buying into the "China is going to eat our lunch" nonsense that Trump likes to spew. Hal Sparks did a deep dive into one of Zeihan's lectures earlier this year. His commentaries are based on his own multiple trips to China. He corroborates Zeihan, and points out a lot of other things going on there that most of us don't hear about. I wouldn't be surprised if Hal made multiple comments on Eloon's tweet, contradicting it with facts.

(12,480 posts)They should kill citizens united and make it stricter, and get rid of that war relic the debt ceiling bullshit. And make an even tougher fairness doctrine.make lying in the news a felony. Because lies, gaslighting, verbal abuse and fascist propaganda should not be treated as free speech on news stations or ads.
I'd add in anyone with a felony on thier record cannot run for public office.
Excepting pot charges.

(9,696 posts)it has nothing to do with running a business. Everyone who is laughing at him for "running twitter into the ground" is missing the bigger point. Probably the same people who laughed at the idea of tr*mp on his golden escalator ever being president.
musk wants to be president would be my guess. What ever happens, this won't ruin tesla or his other investments as people keep hoping. The rules that apply to normal business don't apply to people like musk or tr*mp. They are dangerous and will do anything to seize power.
