1. I agree with him. Makes no sense to cede the space.

It would be a big loss for Dems organizing

Climate organizing too

2. JFC! These are like the folks

Who told us we should listen to Rush Limbaugh so we could see what he was saying.

Fuck a great deal of that noise.

Sane people don't have one fucking chance of getting through to these ignorant fucksticks. Especially when billionaires can buy millions of bots for $8 a pop.

Staying on Twitter in the hopes you can get sanity through, is like using a Turkey Baster of fresh water to clean a raging river of raw sewage.

5. It's not the same thing.

There’s a ton of Twitter users (maybe the majority?) who use Twitter for non-political purposes. They might, however, absorb politics as background noise. If that background noise is totally right wing without a progressive counter, then some of these non-political users might become more and more right wing.

4. He's right.

The fact it's fashionable among some on DU - especially those who seem to have very superficial experiences and knowledge of Twitter and are the most vocal about it - not to acknowledge or accept that doesn't change the facts.

The worthwhile accounts I value and read regularly are still there and functioning much as normal. Some have taken out the insurance of signing up for a presence on other sites in case everything goes totally down the tubes, but they're intent on hunkering down, gritting their teeth and carrying on doing what they do. This seems to be an emerging concensus among them, even those who've never heard of Seth Abramson:

Seth Abramson
@SethAbramson

PS10/ But I’ll also make a prediction: given that the neo-Nazis already have Gab, Parler, GTTR, Truth Social, and even—let’s admit it—the political quadrant of Facebook, if progressives now cede *Twitter* to them and then scatter to the wind, it will be a major blow to democracy.

7. Meh.

I don’t have any problem getting the content I want to see/read on the internet and from reading the newspaper. I don’t need Twitter or any other site like it for that.

99.9% of the people on Twitter are people I do not even know. Nor do I need or care what their opinion is on anything.
