Eli Lilly says some staff want to leave Indiana because of abortion ban, Financial Times reports

Reuters via Yahoo News

(Reuters) - Some Eli Lilly and Co employees have requested transfers from the drugmaker's Indiana operations after the U.S. state's lawmakers approved a bill that would ban most abortions there, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

Some staff had asked to relocate outside the state even though an Indiana judge has temporarily halted the ban, the Indiana-based pharmaceutical firm's chief executive David Ricks told the newspaper in an interview.

Ricks said the new restrictions had created challenges for people to come to work in Indiana and that if Eli Lilly wanted to attract and retain the best staff, it had to grow in other locations, the FT said.

What woman would want to work in Indiana if this is what they will face? Eli Lilly has been handed a huge problem in recruiting women. By Republicans. And their bf’s May join them. Thanks, GOP!

Every sane state should be firing up to steal some quality talent; and the sane states should be trying to relocate facilities in Indiana to their states.

Even a relatively small outfit like mine is too big to leave Texas, and we’re only 500 or so people in Texas. On the other hand, we’re small enough to offer a paid « leave of absence » including travel costs, to any female employee that might have « urgent out of state medical appointments. »

Have to now tell their employer they have an “urgent out of state medical appointment” instead of just quietly and privately getting on with their medical business.

Your company is enabling the fucked up oppression of women by staying there.

You say you’re the only person in the world who can do your job. Why not use your clout and force some change at your company?

They don't HAVE to say anything. They are offered the option, that's all. Not forced. Offered.

80 per cent of our people are natives of Dallas, a fairly liberal city. You're telling me you would force 400 families to pick and move to some other state where they have no family, know no one, and would have to pay sums they can't afford to travel back and visit friends and relatives. We offer benefits that few other companies our size (let alone bigger) do, and have grown from about 40 people (in 1983) to the 550 worldwide that we are now. We have very little turnover, since we treat our people better than most companies do.

YOU go tell them that they are being oppressed. I'm sure they'd appreciate your sage advice, as well as your generous financial assistance due to being forced against their will to move to a state with a higher cost of living.

If you don’t believe that there aren’t employees at your company who feel the same then I have a bridge to sell you.

Women want the right to be able to make their medical decisions in private without informing their employer. I don’t give a shit what benefits you offer, that’s just a fundamental fact.

You could use your clout to help them have that “choice”

Get what they need to produce. Man, what a mess this is causing.
I don't think KCMO has been affected too much. Cerner got bought out and that is affecting all their employees but I think that was regular business.

13. It's imperative women and their male allies pressure these companies

This is a new war and it’s going to take years to undo this damage.

Men like DFW whose an irreplaceable part of his company have unique power to pressure their companies to step up. It’s going to take work on many fronts and the women at Eli Lilly are on the right track with demanding re-location. It forces these companies to actually deal with reality of headquartering in slave states

As did Salesforce, another major employer.

Furthermore, the chucklefucks at the Statehouse don’t give a damn what these companies do, anyway.

That you'd raise children in a state who might seize control over their bodies is just terrifying.

And what the states have done who have not made exceptions for rape and incest is sanction rape and incest as a viable means of men passing on their genes. Rape is now a viable reproduction strategy in many states.

And reporting rape will now be seen as a crime for many women, when the state is going to force you to give birth to a rapist's baby, reporting that rape is dangerous, especially when you have Republicans openly talking about ways that they can limit travel for women in their states. I'm sure there have already been women who thought it best just to keep quiet and make a trip out of state to terminate their pregnancies. This is the sick world Republicans want to live in.
