(5,681 posts)Here in Anchorage AK there is a Veterans Museum that asks for volunteers. I am contacting them this week to see what I can do. Also, since Veterans Day is Friday there MAY be a parade in your town. They always need volunteers. I have passed out donuts and coffee to participants and helped with lining up the parade in the past when I lived in Springfield MO. Also, most vet cemeteries place crosses on graves. You can contact your local cemetery for ways to help with that. And lastly, join or volunteer at a local American Legion, AM Vets or VFW. ALWAYS need helping hands. I work at a local American Legion btw.
Thanks for your service!

(9,909 posts)I get them and it seems that every time (about once a week?) they have real job opportunities listed, and IIRC, volunteer opportunities listed. Perhaps I can find a way to forward them, or find a link where you can request them. Very late now, so let me just pass that along and do a little research.
I previously posted a link to freebies on or around Veteran's Day and I can repost that if and when I find it

(3,943 posts)I attended a DAV meeting last week. Our Commander mentioned volunteers were needed at our local VA Clinic. Id consider the VA Hospital but its 80 miles away, but the clinic is much closer.

(59,593 posts)Virtually every hospice organization seeks veterans to serve as volunteers for hospice patients who are veterans. There are many ways to support and honor these patients as a volunteer.
Many times, hospice patients who are veterans open up and share their military experience with fellow veterans in a way they never have with family or friends. This can give them a greater sense of peace.
Hospices don't only seek veterans for this kind of volunteering, but they all have a special interest in recruiting veterans for this kind of role.
