the General Motors employees are off today to go vote.
Hopefully the UAW Vote helps the Dems.

(15,750 posts)I grew up near a Chrysler plant in Fenton, Missouri. The weakening of unions is one reason Missouri has gone beet red. It leaned conservative in my childhood (70's) but it wasn't like it is now.

(8,910 posts)chipping away at union membership and have been for years now.
Many union members vote against their own interest because they have been brainwashed.
Kinda like chickens voting for colonel sanders.
Youll seldom find someone as ardently anti-union as a worker in a formerly union industry who now believes that unions dont do anything.
As if corporations have ever voluntarily done anything for the workers.

(26,956 posts)The UAW bargains Election Day as a paid holiday. They fought for it. Do not ever think employers ever "give" employees anything.

Frankly, I think EVERY Election Day should be a national holiday.

All for scrapping Columbus Day for this.

(476 posts)Entrance has been changed. He walked around for quite a while trying to figure out how to get into building, no signage. He said he saw sev ppl, who couldn't figure out where entrance was, just leave. Very concerned that they won't come back. Do better, hometown Baltimore!

(22,592 posts)Having been an election judge for a number of years, this story made my hair stand on end! I have never seen a polling place that wasn't clearly marked as such, usually in more than one place. Is your friend absolutely sure the polling place hasn't been moved to a different location? That's the very first thing I would check, on line and/or with a phone call.
It sounds like somebody messed up big time here, by either moving the polling place and not getting the word out, or by not clearly marking the correct entrance and making sure the door was unlocked. The former seems most likely to me, but the latter is not impossible. Either way, there has been a serious screw-up somewhere.
If this happened to me, I would immediately get on the phone to report this to whatever governmental entity is responsible for running elections. (Where I live, it's the office of the county clerk; dont know about Maryland.) They need to hear about this, and ime, they would WANT to hear about it so they can fix it!
I hope that the problem has been handled by now, and your friend has been able to vote. What a mess!
