Sen. Joe Manchins (D-W.Va.) comments signaling support for working across the aisle on entitlement programs like Social Security are getting a warm reception from some fiscal conservatives, despite skepticism about the chances of a bipartisan deal in the next Congress.
Discussing where he thinks both sides could find common ground in the next Congress, Manchin recently pointed to shoring up solvency for programs like Social Security and Medicare while pressing for action on tackling the nations climbing debt.
If we dont look at the trust funds that are going bankrupt, whether they be Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, highway, all the ones there are tremendous problems right now, Manchin, a key centrist, said late last week.
Manchins comments are in stark contrast to recent Democratic attacks hammering GOP proposals for Social Security and Medicare in the final campaign stretch before Election Day. And its a shift that has drawn some early positive reaction from Republicans.

WTF Joe? I'm one who has to wait till I'm 66 1/2 to collect full benefits. Those younger than me will have to wait longer than that.
Let's raise the maximum Social Security tax wage. Currently $147,000 will go up to $160,200 next year.

There's a highway trust fund? That's going bankrupt? They are as stupid as the people who vote for them.

(2,304 posts)Let's get rid of the social security cap for everyone over 400K (leave a donut from 147K to 400K and then tax everything above that)....
How about stop wasting money subsidizing your personal company ... that'll put millions back, we can even ear mark every penny of that rollback to WV roads instead of your yacht and car
I pray that we get 2 more senators so that we never EVER have to hear this worthless self enriching POS ever again.

(2,304 posts)We keep our promises, even ones that I think we're dumb to make in the first place.
But good question.

(2,584 posts)But will those of us that have to wait till 66 1/2 be grandfathered in or will the new change their
talking about move us to the 70's? I'm thinking about taking it this coming year if republicans take
control. It's only about 200 bucks if I wait till I'm 66 1/2. that I'll lose I don't think they can get it passed before
I hit my early take before Dec.
