https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/08/us/politics/trump-desantis-2024.htmlSeveral hours before polls opened on Tuesday for Election Day in Florida, former President Donald J. Trump warned the states governor, Ron DeSantis, against mounting a challenge to Mr. Trumps own anticipated presidential candidacy in the 2024 election cycle.
If he runs, he runs, Mr. Trump said of Mr. DeSantis to a handful of reporters traveling with him on his private plane recently refurbished and put back into use after a rally Monday night in Dayton, Ohio.
But Mr. Trump added, in remarks published on Tuesday by The Wall Street Journal, If he did run, I will tell you things about him that wont be very flattering. I know more about him than anybody other than perhaps his wife, who is really running his campaign.
The former president, preparing to announce a rare candidacy for the White House after a defeat, was thus openly threatening to smear the person who would be considered his leading rival, should he choose to run.

(15,392 posts)He has to be encouraged by his re-election, and people chanting, "Two more years," at his victory speech. I'm sure a lot of republicans have misgivings about running for president against Trump, but a lot of them don't want to put their presidential aspirations on the shelf because it won't be for just four years. If, God forbids, he wins. He'll try to go for a third term, and when that doesn't work out, he'll push one of his kids to run, etc. Hopefully DeSantis and Trump will tear each other apart.

(15,392 posts)There are the everyday Trump-Humpers that are still active in the republican party, but there are also people like Marjorie Taylor Greene who has asked (if not demanded) that DeSantis not run - possibly because she's angling for the Veep position. I also get that same feeling from Tulsi Gabbard - that she wants to be Donald's veep.

Hint there that Trump has dirt on DeSantis' wife and himself. A very public threat.
