What do you make of the numerous media stories that Gavin Newsom will run for president in 2024

He has denied it, but the news machine doesn't let it go, such as this story from hours ago:

It was the second decisive statewide victory for Newsom in barely a year. In September 2021, he easily beat back an attempt to kick him out of office that was fueled by anger over his pandemic policies. The failed recall solidified Newsom’s political power in California, leaving him free to focus on the future — which many expect will include a run for the White House.

“I think that he becomes one of the highest-profile Democrats in the country, given there is very likely going to be divided government in Washington D.C., and the Democrats will be looking for any and all allies to promote their agenda,” said Matt Barreto, a UCLA political science professor. “And Gov. Newsom will have a very large platform from California to do that.”

Would you like to see Newsom as Biden's successor, if Biden chooses not to run again?

At least to me. Wasn't he married to that complete nutjob that is now married to a Trump? I admit I don't know alot about him but that suggests at least poor judgment.

Incumbency is powerful, and it would be foolish to give up that advantage just because we 'feel' that we need something 'new'...

More importantly, no party who failed to nominate their incumbent president, or whom had a serious candidate challenge their incumbent in primary elections, has won a general election since the 1920s...

(There was a succession of Republican one-term presidents in the 1920s, but unfortunately I am sketchy on the history there-- except that Republicans were very strong and won most presidential elections from 1860 to 1928...)

If President "Fighting Joe" Biden indeed runs for re-election, anyone who challenges him is DEAD to me-- and I frankly have no serious complaints with him that would lead me to even seriously consider any challenger. He has come out this year as a partisan fighter in time for these midterm elections--- which might have been my major complaint if he hadn't. But---

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

I'm with Joe in 24... or Brandon 2024-- whatever! LOL

I like what he said about Democrats needing to change the narrative. I said this for years. We need to be willing to fight back. Stop letting them define what it means to be a liberal with derogatory name calling. Let's start defining them as the cave men they are. Those ads Media's Touch came up with were brilliant. We've been too worried about playing defense. It's time we go on offense.

It's too early in the game for me to start thinking about the primaries, but whom

in time to be entirety free to a) write a book, b) do a national press tour, and c) start fundraising and campaigning for the primary -- while others are still considering whether or not to try to run.

Challenging the incumbent POTUS in the primary while playing hooky from your Very Important Job (which is your primary qualification for POTUS) to do so... Not the best look. Not the best situation, if you believe you only get one shot at this.

IMO his chances are better for POTUS in 2028, regardless of the 2024 general election outcome (D or R) -- assuming Biden/Harris win the 2024 primary. Either facing VP Harris and others in the primary, or a Repuke POTUS in the general... both are better odds than an incumbent Biden POTUS in a primary.

As for would I like it? I have no hesitation about him doing the job, if that were the only question I'd confidently vote for him unless someone else wowed me. I'm worried about electability. The media and Repukes will to a tag-team job on him with elitism/out of touch/anti-CA bias shit. He would need to win MI and WI and PA and NV and AZ general elections, etc... I dunno.

If he didn't, he'd piss off a ton of people as long as President Biden continues to signal he's running.

But he is absolutely setting himself up to run. He's currently running in the only area important at the moment - inside the party.

The idea is to create enough pressure from the inside, within the party establishment, machinery, and - most importantly - donors, get those whispering campaigns and media leaks going, to the point where enough people convince Biden not running again is best.

It will not be done in the open. That would lead to party civil war.

The big snag is Harris. I think Harris is a non-starter. But that is absolutely going to start some shit in the party.

Newsom's going to be try to be slick about it. And honestly, anyone who has ambitions for 2024 would be doing the same.
