Now, next year when McCarthy is Speaker...

..(an assumption) we will get to see the incompetence of a GOP controlled House. They won't fix the border or inflation or crime or do much of anything productive or constructive. MTG will push to impeach Biden, Harris, Garland, Pelosi et al and investigate Hunter, maybe do their own version of a Jan 6 Committee and blame it all own Nancy...

They'll have a lot of fun showing their stupidity while Biden and the Dems build a case to retake the House in 2024...

Necessarily follow that he will get the Speakership? If there is a razor thin margin in the house, how do we know that he could get the support he needs to become the Speaker. People, especially Republicans, appear to be running on the assumption that he is a shoe-in in the event we lose the house. Are there other Republicans who would be vying for that position?

I qualified the comment with 'assumption'. My point was intended regardless the elected Speaker.

And as someone noted, they haven't won the majority yet.

I can't remember who said that, but it was sometime during the election coverage on MSNBC.

I'm still hoping we won't lose the House, but the next best thing would be Kevin losing the speakership. He has been counting on it for quite a while, and I'm sure it would break his teeny-weeny, wizened, little charcoal briquette of a heart to see it go to someone else.

for Speaker.

I think the whole premise of this was that there was going to be this great red wave where the Republicans woiuld hold a 30+ seat advantage which didn't happen.

I have no clue who within the Republican Party could challenge McCarthy. We have to wait how this shakes out.

McCarthy was a ambitious pretty face, but he's not smart or consistent. And Pelosi basically has been emasculating hom for the past two years. He's going to be an easy blame for House failures.
He won't survive a Speaker's battle.

So, your projection of defeat is going to be a moot issue.

Phase 1 - A self-immolating scrum for SoH. The long knives are coming for McCarthy and the fractures will be very public.

Phase 2 - A broken, disunified GOP Congress that has the barest edge of power and no margin for error in dissension.

Phase 3 - Power struggles due to Phase 2 (think Manchin/Sinema in the Senate and the power struggle there, but on a pettier, uglier, more petulant, and very public scale).

Phase 4 - Disenchantment by GOP voters and a structural struggle of conventional GOPers attempting to "strike back" MAGA GOPers once and for all.

I think it's going to be ugly. Biden won't get anything through for two years, so there will be plenty of externalized chaos that falls to us, but we have a clear villain in 2024 with structural safeguards in key places (D governors, SoSs, statehouses).

Nothing getting done for 2 years. They might follow through on their threats of impeachment, but it will not hold water.

..and MAGA are on the way out. Biden said the election was not a referendum but a choice. The majority of voters made the right choice. The 'stolen election' rhetoric is running out of momentum. Some 20 states (AZ in particular) changed the rules in the interest of 'election integrity'. So, is Kari Lake going whine about a rigged election?

I also expect the courts are going to express a lot of disdain towards frivolous lawsuits with no evidence. 'Thinking or feeling' an election was irregular ain't gonna' fly this round.

The maga gang is gonna want complete and absolute fealty to all things facist. Boehner got neutered by the tea party and said “f’ck it, I’m going home”. McCarthy will get neutered be the maga gang but he’ll stay there because, as soul-less as boehner was, McCarthy is worse.

that they put forth their plan to cut SS and Medicare since this is what they ran on, too. It's a safe thing to do cuz Biden would never sign such legislation but it would put Rs on the record in their effort to cut SS and Medicare.

They want everything to go to hell so they can blame it on Biden.
