McCarthy's victory party fizzles

Kevin McCarthy delayed a victory speech to what was supposed to be a jubilant party of Republicans until 2 a.m. Wednesday. By that time, a sizable number of attendees had already left.

And the GOP leader kept his speech brief, as he still didn’t have a firm call that his party had won the House.

“When you wake up tomorrow, we will be in the majority and Nancy Pelosi will be in the minority,” McCarthy said to a ballroom that quickly filled up with staffers after it had thinned in the early morning hours.

A year ago, McCarthy had predicted the GOP would pick up more than 60 seats in the chamber in a historic red wave.

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/11/09/mccarthy-house-gop-00065882

"The American people are ready for a majority that will offer a new direction. That will put America back on track. " said McCarthy during his speech. "Republicans are ready to deliver."

Really? Instead, here's what will likely happen: if Republicans do manage to squeak out a victory in the House with a tiny majority, McCarthy will have to take part in a divisive internal fight to win the Speakership. If he wins, he will have to dance to the tune of House GOP nutjobs like MTG, Matt Gaetz, and Paul Gosar, who will be able to force him to do their bidding and throttle anything he wants to do (if you thought we had a tough time with Sinema and Manchin over the last couple of years, wait till you see what the House GOP clowns will do to spineless wimp McCarthy).

And what do they want more than anything? To impeach Biden. Which is the absolute LAST thing the country wants after sending a strong, almost unprecedented message at the voting booth against total GOP control. So for all McCarthy's "new direction" blather, instead you'll likely have a handful of out-of-control right-wing nutjobs running the show, who demand to impeach Biden, won't take no for an answer, and will gladly ruin McCarthy's plans in order to get their way. A tiny majority means they're setting themselves up for two years of embarrassing, uncontrollable party infighting, and potentially a disastrous 2024.

And speaking of uncontrollable party infighting, the outcome of these mid-terms couldn't put DeSantis and Trump in a more precarious position. Trump has been severely weakened, and DeSantis -- the new king of Fox news -- has been significantly emboldened. Trump obviously isn't going to take that lying down -- he knows for sure now that DeSantis is his biggest threat, and he'll likely go scorched earth on him for the next two years. An epic primary could be brewing. Trump is already a proven loser for the GOP -- if he wins the primary, they're screwed in 2024. But if he loses to DeSantis, there's a good chance that Trump will try to wreck his general election chances by withholding support.

Even if they manage to squeak out a victory in the House and/or Senate, this mid-term was a historically poor showing for Republicans and they're likely to have significant problems moving forward.

Doing NOTHING in the House for the American people on key important issues will play well into the hands of Democrats running for the seats lost by a hair in many cases.

Look for the next 2 years under Republican control to be argumentative, obstructive, nasty, and UNPRODUCTIVE. The American people will be looking for solutions and the Republicans have NONE.

Any lengthy Government shutdown will be disastrous for the House GOP. Kevin McCarthy will likely be overthrown as Speaker by those RWNJs like Greene, Gaetz, Gosar, Jordan, and others. Their rule will be very short indeed.

Trump will burn the Republican Party to the ground before he accepts losing the Republican nomination.
