(5,064 posts)I think it would be easy to get that 3% when the second round of rank choice is counted from the other republican. Given, I don't know if the 47% is the final number.

(61,216 posts)I suspect a higher percent of his voters would choose the Democrat over Palin. Many did in the special election recently. Given how close to 50 percent she is, she does not need a huge percent of the reallocated votes. I wonder if the GOP made a point that people should not give her second choice votes given the special election. I do hope there are enough never Palin.

(5,064 posts)If she falls to third, I think we will lose unless we can somehow get to 50% right off the bat. Basically the same scenario that happened a few months ago when we won the house seat.

(55,334 posts)With ranked choice voting, you eliminate the "splitting the vote" factor in three way races. Palin has the potential to pick up all of the votes from 3rd place finisher Begich, and then she'd win 53-47. Fortunately for the country, there seems to be a large contingent of Republican voters who can't deal with her inane ramblings, and they're giving their 2nd choice to the Democrat, US Rep. Peltola. She'll need about 3 of the 24 percentage points (or about 13% of Begich's voters) to win a full term.
Alaskan Republicans could easily win back this seat next time around. But they'd have to be willing to voter for an actual grown-up to gain that advantage.

(12,794 posts)I think you're right. There's a lot of Alaskans that remember what a train wreck she was - and how she quit halfway through her term. That's what happened earlier this year.
