The Republican Party may be girding for a brutal internal war amid the wreckage of its midterm elections and Donald Trump is ready to burn it all down if he cant keep his grip on the GOP, predicts New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman.
Who or what remains standing after such a clash is far from clear, she noted Friday.
The throw-down is likely to begin next week when Trump is expected to announce that hes running again for president, against the advice even of some of his allies. Trump has already been trashing potential primary rivals, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and possibly Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and former Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump is vulnerable to internal attacks now in the wake of the Republican Partys dismal showing in the midterms but that has happened before and hes survived, Haberman pointed out in a series of tweets.

(14,946 posts)There are some on there that are absolutely willing to kill or die for him. The rest are beginning to figure out how bad its going to be in the lead up to 2024. Freeper Land will definitely implode when Trump announces and Desatan does too! Republicans are in disarray!

(21,761 posts)The ones that have a light turning on are only just realizing that tfg is only about himself. Before long they are going to see the reality of his scams. They are going to figure out they have been giving money to a conman who uses it only for himself and nothing else.

Its a wild exaggeration most of the time. Somehow the GOP has never merited that diss, even when its richly deserved.
Now, its unavoidable.

I want to see him start a third party and split the vote. How soon after his announcement will we hear that they have withdrawn support?
He has to announce on the 15th because he told people in Ohio that he would. Not much of an announcement. What a loser.

(50,562 posts)That, naturally, is why I recommend he do it.
Trumps problem in a nutshell: GOP opposition research is excellent at finding the skeletons in your closet, and you could start a Halloween store with all the ones he has. If Trump decides to go nuclear on the GOP, they will return the favor - and some of his skeletons are felonies.
Now for the best - or worst, if youre a Trump - part: I predict that many of his crimes are not ones his fans can overlook. Trump was friends with Jeffrey Epstein for quite a while. Epstein, as the world knows, specialized in pimping minors. Trump has no morals. The other day I saw a bumper sticker between two Trump decals that read Shoot Your Local Pedophile. Most of them dont put it quite that badly, but pedophilia is highly unpopular among Republicans. If it turns out Trump was doing more on Epsteins island than drinking Shirley Temples, things will get bad quick.

(21,582 posts)party leaders and Fox say that he shouldn't run, he will run to get vengeance on them for their disloyalty, and to punish people for not electing his chosen candidates.
If he is indicted and Republicans use that to dump him, he will still run on a third party ticket just to destroy them. Even the likelihood of losing as a third party candidate will not stop him from getting his vengeance on the party. It's like what he did in Georgia as vengeance against McTurtle, which gave us the Senate.
GoodRaisin
(8,926 posts)What would burning it down look like? Take a bunch of Magats with him on a 3rd party run? Or just more poo-pooing candidates he doesnt like? What does not getting his way mean? No republicans run against him once he announces hes running, because he thinks hes God of Republicans?
I know the party seems to be in some disarray right now but it sounds like the big bag of wind is either being a little overly dramatic or maybe MSM is.
Dont get me wrong. Id love nothing more than to watch the GOP level itself to an ash heap. Hope it happens. Just not sure how or if that would go down.
