They are bitter about Democrats retaining Senate control and might depose McConnell in a hissy fit over it. McConnell of course was smart enough to realize that Trump forced a bunch of loser candidates on Republicans in Senate contests that could have won Republicans control of the Senate. He also has been one of the most effective (toward ill ends) Senate leaders from either party in history. Time to get rid of him, Senate Republicans, you are on a streak. Why stop now?

That would be unbearable for him.
Good.
(Wherever Harry Reid is, he's quietly smiling.)

(46,579 posts)McCarthy pulled Gaetz and Jordan off the committee for some reason not his own I believe.
None of the members of congress including US sitting senators have been touched by the committee.
Obviously some sort of deal was struck at the highest levels to throw only Trump under the bus.
The fingerprints are Mitch McConnell's and his alone.

(24,253 posts)she gave herself the power to disallow people McCarthy appointed, and it was her who denied Gaetz and Jordan being on the committee. I could be wrong but that's my recollection.

(46,579 posts)The deal had been struck before hand at the highest levels of power.
By the time something hits our TV screen it has all be decided.
We just see the performance art of Washington DC.
The GOP always protects its own at any cost.
But a decision was made to destroy Trump
This had to come from the very top of the GOP power structure.
And that is Mitch McConnell. Who hates Trump.
All the pieces fall together perfectly.

(8,962 posts)Not to defend Turtle Man too much here, but Mitch seemed to make some informed decisions on where to direct more of the campaign cash (to Ohio, for example), and where to direct less (to Masters in Arizona). The master strategist Rick Scott failed to flip a single Dem seat, and once the GA runoff votes are in, his "perfect" record of goose eggs will (you can bet on it) be unblemished.

(5,499 posts)Why would he stick around? But I don't know who they'll put in his role. There are a number of R senators who don't seem very bright. Maybe they'll elevate Susan Collins (LOL).
