If this was two years ago, the hospitals at port would be overflowing with the sick and dying.

Still, it’s really stupid to pack human sardines in an endemic, virus mutation fans love that.

I’ve known several people now who have gotten COVID and took PAXLOVID, including my 24-year old son. In all cases symptoms remained mild and on average by day 3 of taking PAXLOVID symptoms were almost non-existent. None had rebound COVID. All were vaxxed and boosted. Ages varied from the youngest being my son to the oldest being a friend’s mom who was in her 80’s. My son tested negative for COVID by day 7. Not sure of the others.

Another friend and his entire family just got over COVID. Parents in their 50’s, kids in their 20’s. All were vaxxed and boosted. None took PAXLOVID. Their symptoms were much worse including fever and persistent cough over 2 weeks after first testing positive (nothing major, more of just an annoying dry “tickle” type cough). None even close to hospitalization (thanks vaccines!) but their symptoms were definitely much worse and lasted longer than those I know who took PAXLOVID.

All of the above is anecdotal of course. And there is still a ton of confusion amongst the medical community as to who qualifies for PAXLOVID. There is no longer a shortage but some doctors are still refusing to prescribe unless high risk, which is no longer necessary.

So with both vaccines and effective antivirals I agree with Biden as well.

My sister lost her brother-in-law (a Trumper) to COVID in late October. He was 73 and only had one vaccine (J&J) back in 2021.

I also learned that the 40-something year old owner of my auto repair shop died of COVID. He was unvaccinated.

They're done with the pandemic and they expect the pandemic to be done with them. Funnily enough, science doesn't work like that.

Even in good times a cruise ship is a giant festering petri dish of communicable diseases. Obviously my personal opinion.

My fully vaccinated/boosted and otherwise healthy father in his early 70s got infected with Covid at the hospital where he was being treated for an injury (he was doing cement work and injured himself) and he died of Covid there 3 weeks ago. Thousands of Americans are still dying of Covid every week. Our family is devastated.

You're all fucked.

That's how we got COVID back in May. We were vaxxed and boosted, and require to have a negative test before boarding our cruise. However, some of the entertainers had it, so much that they had to cancel performances of shows. We also think that it may have happened on one of the Islands we were on, St. Kitt's. The week after we came back, the CDC raised the alert level for St. Kitt's to high. Within a week of getting off of the boat and going home, about half of the people in our conference that was held on the cruise reported testing positive.

I have an acquaintance who leans right politically, but did get the first round of vaccinations. Then he got Covid, which somehow “proved" vaccinations don’t work. He and wife went on a cruise and caught Covid. She died.
