Controversial, to say the least. Last week they had a skit in which they portrayed all Dems who might run in 2024 as nightmares using a horror flick parody. The gang on CNN all thought it was hysterical (the week-end before the midterms). Apparently, there was nothing funny or easily skewered about the Repugs to mock. It's not like they were doing anything crazy right before the midterms or anything.
Does this almost all new cast even make fun of repugs anymore? I know that they can do endless takes on the Biden is old bit. But I have to think that eventually even they will get tired of that. Or maybe not.

(10,703 posts)Transphobes dont get my support - he lost me as a fan long ago.
I understand some people like him but I found him easy to give up.
Transphobic, great just great.
I loved Louis C.K. but I have not watched anything that I knew he was part of since he got in trouble. I just don't think any of them are worth causing groups of people pain or more difficulty than they already have. I can be entertained by others.
YMMV

(57,825 posts)He's fantastic. That he made a sketch skewering Democrats is hardly a reason not to watch him. He makes fun of Republicans too. People who think comedians have a responsible to promote their own political views probably shouldn't watch comedy period.
His transgender piece was more problematic, and from what I'm heard it was completely inappropriate. I, however, am still going to watch him. He might actually make SNL funny, provided they let him write some skits.

(26,092 posts)I was making two different points. One was about SNL in general trying really hard to be balanced by doing lots of unfunny skits about Dems, and the other was about the problematic DC. I used to think he was funny, and I do like edgy comedy. But when it "punches down" and hurts people I draw the line.

(14,160 posts)The guy is gifted and funny. That's what I watch for. Amy Schumer was fantastic last week. Also, Cecily Strong had a powerful (and very funny) skit on Weekend Update about reproductive freedom last week.

(11,540 posts)He turned me off big time. Selfish, entitled, rules-don't-apply-to-me-smell-my-noxious-smoke POS. I didn't think he was funny either. But nobody in that audience could have possibly thought he was as funny as he himself did. His obsession with trashing transgender people makes him even more repellent to me. UGH.

(2,749 posts)When he is on, his satire bites like a crocodile. When he's lame... he's really lame.
I won't watch, but I'll be looking for commentary about his bits.

(6,200 posts)SNL has had a right wing edge for decades now. They did mock T, but they just want a less embarrassing dictator.
