"SNIP.......
Pennsylvania Gov.-elect Josh Shapiro (D) said that his Republican opponent, Doug Mastriano, has not called to concede the race after major media outlets projected his loss on Tuesday night, The Hill The Hill reports.
Said Shapiro: I mean, who cares if he calls, right?
He added: He doesnt get to pick the winner, the people pick the winner. And in a resounding way, they made clear that they wanted me to lead this commonwealth forward.

(32,823 posts)I mean, it's just a courtesy call, am I right? He's incapable of doing that and his rudeness is widely known.
Josh knows it, and he has already moved on.
Something Mastriano has to live with from now on is, Josh Shapiro is HIS Governor too.

The MAGA diehard is only the latest high-profile Republican running for office in Pennsylvania with deep roots elsewhere

Doug Mastriano the Trump-loving, Confederate garb-wearing, unhinged-religious-prophet-affiliating Republican gubernatorial nominee in Pennsylvania was registered to vote in New Jersey until 2021, the New Jersey Globe reported on Friday.
Mastriano, who was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and raised in Highstown, New Jersey, voted in the latter town for nearly 30 years from 1982 up until 2010. The New Jersey Globe notes that Mastriano never informed Mercer County, New Jersey, that he moved from the state, and continued to receive sample ballots until his mother died last January. Mastriano has been registered to vote in Pennsylvania since 2012, and there is no indication he voted in both states simultaneously.
One would think Mastriano would be a little more fastidious about his voting status, as he has long alleged without evidence that the 2020 election was rigged against Trump, and that fraud was rife throughout Pennsylvania. Hes said that if elected he would push to make everyone in the state re-register to vote, which many have argued would be a violation of federal law. Theres still a lot of dead on the rolls, and what have you, and theres ghost phantom voters that we found, as well, at various addresses, he told Newsmax earlier this year. So were going to take that very seriously and move really hard. Basically we have about a year to get that right before the 2024 presidential election.

No matter where I have traveled around the U.S. or the world, there is ALWAYS someone from Jersey there!

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/11/15/trump-admits-biden-won-falsely-claims-election-was-rigged.html
"President Donald Trump acknowledged publicly for the first time that President-elect Joe Biden won the election, more than seven days after media outlets including NBC News called the race for Biden."
"The presidents comments, made in a seemingly offhand post on social media, come as his campaign continues to challenge the results of the election in court and as his administration is holding up the formal transition processes."
"Shortly after writing that Biden had won, though, Trump wrote in another post that he would not concede and claimed that WE WILL WIN!

(42,636 posts)if they would concede. If they lose, it doesnt matter whether or not they concedetheyre not getting sworn in. Maybe the question reporters should have been asking is whether they planned to call for armed insurrection if the vote didnt go their way.

(13,575 posts)just following the lead of tfg. He never conceded either. I am sure that is how many of tfg politicians act. Never concede. They think it makes them look weak. What they dont get is it makes them look weak when they DONT concede.

(1,340 posts)They are only Americans by default because they were born here. They are nothing but animals and should be treated as such. If they get robbed at gunpoint, I cheer for the robber. If they are trapped in a fire, I won't dignify them by calling the fire dept. If they were in a car accident, I drive away. That is the definitive attitude that should be. Deny them absolute.

(19,193 posts)It's become the cornerstone of our Democracy. Passions are high, people are thinking each election is the end of the country, seeing the losing candidates give sincere concession speeches dials the heat down from 10 to 5 and ensures our democracy continues.
Al Gore's concession speech helped heal the country. John McCain's concession speech to Obama was very well done and healing. Now, more than ever, we need that. This matters. All it takes is one election to throw half the country into chaos, as we've seen.

(19,193 posts)We had some of the most extremists in the country running for the GOP. Each one of them conceded to my knowledge, including Tudor Dixon. It matters. It shuts down the online conspiracy theories. It makes supporters change their tone from "violently overthrowing" the government, to "Well, we still probably got cheated, but what can we do better next time."
The damage Trump did and is doing because he never conceded, because he never gave that speech, is immense. He was our President, what he says matters. Because of him, about 25% of the country believes total fantasies about our election system. It's weakened our Democracy tremendously.

(28,277 posts)I think it's part of some oath they swear to. (Probably not---they're no good at keeping promises, either.)
And with all due respect, trump doing a nice concession speech wouldn't lift this country out of the toilet into which he dragged it. Not even close. It would just be considered another lie.
