Chuck, of both sides no push back GOP enabler fame, finds it necessary to equate the Dem win as a loss, is #126 as to why that blathering imbecile should be pulled from MTP and relocated to a basement in Bayonne, New Jersey podcasting to an audience of one...(my apologies to Bayonne)...

Todd really isnt a good journalist
It is his job to define what a normal republican is
Is a normal republican against abortion? Against environmental protections, against social security and Medicare, etc.
NBC really needs to replace him
Recall it was Todd who remarked that as a journalist, it wasnt his job to call out false statements made by politicians in regard to blatantly false statements made about the ACA by republicans

(10,203 posts)sidelined. The last normal Republicans are a tiny minority like Mitt Romney. The rest of them are either Tea Party or MAGA loonies or craven opportunists like Marco Rubio. Normal Republicanism is going the same way the Ripon Society went, pushed towards extinction by greed-heads, ideologues, bigots and wanna-be cornfield Mussolinis.
EDIT: Normal is so OVER in the Republican Party.

(60,809 posts)Many normal Republicans of his youth were pushed out of the party. Others left on their own accord. Jeffords of Vermont shifted in 2001 giving us the majority. Spector of PA shifted in 2009 giving us a super majority. Both of these men were long term established Republicans.
Go back further and the Republicans had people like John Heinz of PA, Javits in NY, Case in NJ, Percy in Illinois. All more liberal than the centrist Democrats of their day.
Who now is Todd's normal Republican? De Santis? Hawley? Rubio? Cotton? Ron Johnson? Pompeo? The Trump years tarnished all of them.
Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)Rather he asked Elizabeth Warren a question about whether she had concerns about running against "normal" Republicans (and he named two: Chris Sununu and Mike DeWine). Warren knocked the question out of the park.
Dishonestly framed threads are not helpful on this forum.

(12,595 posts)Did Chuck Todd say " Democrats cant win if theyre running against normal Republicans"
Yes he did He absolutely did. The OP was factually correct. Now you can say that it was misleading because Todd made the statement posed as a question
Do you have a concern that Democrats cant win if theyre running against normal Republicans, kind of like Chris Sununu or Mike DeWine people like that?
And you would have a point if I accepted that Todd is a journalist asking questions, but I do not. Todd is a propagandist, spewing GOP talking points under the cover of just asking questions. "Democrats cant win if theyre running against normal Republicans". He said it and he meant it"

(5,104 posts)But claiming that what was offered as a question was instead a declarative statement by Todd is an example of bias intruding on an honest description of what took place in his segment with Warren.
I'm sure many people who are happy with the results of the midterms do wonder about what might have happened if fewer MAGA extremists/election deniers had represented the Republicans in 2022.

(8,739 posts)A traditional normal republican isn't far enough to the right of center to win a republican only primary. The new mainstream republican would never tolerate a traditional "normal republican".
It therefore suffices to say that the republican candidates in 2022 were the new normal for the republican party, and they didn't fare all that well against Democrats.
It took some serious gerrymandering in several states to engineer what still is not established as a majority in the House.
It took some serious attempts at voter suppression in several states to produce an almost certain loss of only one republican seat in the Senate.
Considering what usually happens in a midterm election, I'd say Democrats showed they can win in an election against what now passes for a normal republican.

If Chuck Todd were only responsible for reporting on obituaries in some Dumbfuckistan, 'Murika shithole:
Gertrude Alflin, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep. Some say she was a woman of tremendous faith, attending church every morning. Others say that she was really a cruel woman who hated her family. Reports are that she became more of a homebody when the love of her life, Bernard, passed away several years ago, although some have questioned her whereabouts at the time of his death. In lieu of flowers, the family have asked that you play a Bingo Card in her honor at the Tuesday Afternoon VFW Post Bingo Game, but some people say that this would only encourage gambling.
She'll be laid to rest at Shady Grove Cemetery and Drive-Thru on Monday, although some have said it will be Wednesday."
"Back to you Andrea..."
