I hear all the media folks saying that far right congressmen (like MTG) will have a lot of power and sway in a slim republican majority. But it seems to me like republicans in swing districts or in districts that Biden won would/should have more power. Like all those NY/CA districts that Republicans barely won .the Republicans wouldnt have a majority without them .isnt that the reason Sinema and Manchinhsve so much power in the Senate? :MTG and her ilk are in safe districts they mean nothing to the majority

(263 posts)if they do go along with the clownish agenda of the MAGA Republicans, its almost guaranteed they will be wiped out the next election.

(21,947 posts)this is why a GOP-led House will not be able to get anything done. The far-right has power in the sense that they are a huge chunk of the GOP caucus and anyone who wants the leadership position will have to bend to their demands. At the same time, those freshmen Republicans you're talking about will be able to block anything they want to do if it looks like it's going to threaten their re-election.
Both sides have power but unlike Democrats, neither will compromise. The House Republican caucus is mostly made up of far-right loons who think that compromise is weakness.
It's going to be very difficult for them to get any legislation out of the House at all.

(34,386 posts)one bullshit "investigation" after another. Gym Jordan with subpoena power? It's going to be Hunter Biden, Impeach Joe 24/7 with maybe a bogus investigation of Hillary or two thrown in. It's all they know how to do. Or they'll pass bullshit abortion bills, but little else.
I hope it's just my pessimism bubbling to the top, but I think we're in for a grim, tiresome 2 years.
