Zeldin eyeing possible bid for Republican National Committee chairman

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.), who lost a bid to be New York’s governor, is considering making a play to be chairman of the Republican National Committee, a leading adviser says.

“He’s had a number of people calling, from elected officials, from members of the RNC, quite a few people saying, ‘Would you consider running for RNC chair?’ ” John Brabender, who worked as Zeldin’s media consultant, tells The Post’s Michael Scherer. “He will certainly investigate. He was at the first a little surprised by the number of accolades he got [for his strong but losing race for governor].”

Brabender said Zeldin is “investigating” a bid for RNC chairman.

“He feels that there is a lot he can do there, and a lot that needs to be done there,” Brabender said. “He is doing the due diligence anyone would do at least if he wanted to know more.”
