(8,849 posts)and, yes, I'm vaccinated and boosted (3)..I wear a mask whenever I leave my house (I intend to be buried in mine)...the last time I tested positive for covid I was touring Canada with my daughter...at the time, masks were only mandatory in airports/airplanes/train stations/trains but nowhere else...
I can tell you restaurants, with the tables once again crammed together, diners coughing, is a covid Petri dish, and that's where I contracted covid, again...if Joe tests positive he'll have a hell of a "cold" but he'll recover, just like the last time.

(1,495 posts)Not everyone recovers. It was the worst death you could ever imagine too. I have such terrible PTSD from watching my beloved father die in agony of this horrible virus.
He injured himself doing some concrete work on our front step, had to go to the hospital, caught Covid at hospital, and just kept getting worse until he died.
my deepest sympathy to you and your family. Crappy Covid it's still out there.

(55,137 posts)I wish more people would relate circumstances like you have experienced.
I told my doctor about 2 months ago that I was hesitant about getting some requested but not necessary tests in a hospital for fear of getting Covid, even though I wear my trusty, uncomfortable N95 every time I am in public. Being uncomfortable means that it is tight (which is a good thing). I thought he was going to tell me I was being paranoid and ridiculous but when I told him that I have read about people, like your dad, getting it even though vaxxed, etc he understood and was almost congratulatory that I keep up with current info and took it seriously.

(3,234 posts)Absolutely nothing like a cold and over 1 million have died of Covid. We're averaging mass death still each & every week.
My mom was 71 when she died of Covid.

I had Covid 19 prior to the lockdown.. difficulty breathing took a backseat to septic shock and the real possibility of losing a limb..I've had the omicron variant twice...compared to weeks spend in a hospital that specialized in skin grafts, omicron was a very bad cold..

(1,495 posts)over and over again. I live in New York State and know many people on Covid infection #5.
I feel like I live in an alternate universe.
I have to go to the doctor tomorrow (I'm high risk, I have diabetes, lupus, RA, and Psoriasis) and I'm dreading seeing all the sick unmasked and coughing people who will be in the waiting room. People can't even have the consideration to mask in a doctor's office!
Having just lost my beloved father to Covid 4 weeks ago today, I don't know how much more I can take. I feel like I'm losing my mind with grief and anger.

(15,772 posts)A mask-optrional doctors office waiting room. From a woman within 3 feet of me who took her mask off complaining about allergies. I'm so pissed I don't want to go back. The medical assistant was unmasked, yakking in my face. Brought it home to a 70 yr old. I was terrified
He had 2 courses of paxlovid. Seems okay, with some SOB.

(17,740 posts)get blood work done at my rheumatologist office today and it was mask optional. I kept my mask on and the gal that drew my blood and one of the front desk employees had a masks on. Two other patients had masks on. There were few patients in office though. Most employees didnt wear masks. Its strange because many patients that come in have compromised immune systems so was surprised to see mask optional. My Moms nursing home has had an outbreak of Covid since mid September, although it slowed down in late October. The other day I checked and they had a couple new cases. I think during that September, early October outbreak they had eight people die. You cant tell me it is over!!!

(22,648 posts)I see a lot of doctors. and every office I walk into has multiple signs taped to the entrance door along the lines of ABSOLUTELY NO ENTRANCE WITHOUT A PROPERLY FITTED MASK, EVEN IF YOU ARE VACCINATED.
I'm discouraged to hear that it is not this way statewide.
I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. It's so difficult. I lost my brother to it.
Hang tough, mama. You're going to be OK.

(9,212 posts)No doctor should be risking your life that way. I think my endo office started that too. Unbelievable. Lost my beloved father also and I will never forgive this country and all those responsible. This country and so many people here are crazy and or very narcissistic.

(40,278 posts)Highly contagious too as I am always masked and still got it. I tested myself twice so it wasn't Covid, plus I never had a fever. My throat was freaking killing me for 3 days though, then it dropped into my chest. It was completely gone in 7 days though.
We all have it.

(565 posts)Not an expert on constitutional law so If I am wrong please correct me. If god forbid something terrible happens to President Biden and he passes away or cannot function and resigns. Kamala would be President and she would pick her VP. Senate stayed with Democrat control so they would confirm the pick. Under the GOP control they could refuse to confirm the pick and McCarthy (if speaker) would be next in line.
Am I right
If I am wrong please let me know.

(2,851 posts)That's why I've refused to to go out since late November of 2019. I was already hearing about what was going on in China from someone on Twitter who was living and working there at the time. And it's why I haven't had but a couple of people inside our home beginning after my second Covid booster. I can't trust the safety of someone else if I don't know their vaccine status. I just will not dine in a restaurant. Frankly, I've all but lost any great desire to do so. And my husband I used to dine out a couple of times a month. There's one wonderful French bistro that has a great outdoor patio, and I probably would consider that but not with another couple or any family members. I did contract Covid back in early July. My husband brought it home to me, probably from him having been exposed in a restaurant where he weekly dines with some of his buddies for lunch. We both had a light case each, but it wasn't fun.
All I know is that after my third boost with the Moderna co-valent vaccine, it knocked me down for about a day yesterday. I'm back to normal, but if a vaccine can do that, I'd hate to think what an infection with of these new variants might produce.
Biden likely has some faint, lingering protection derived from his previous infection and the subsequent rebound one.
