Gov. Kevin Stitt is under fire from local and national individuals and groups for saying that he has claimed "every square inch" of Oklahoma for Jesus.
American Jewish Committee, a national Jewish advocacy group, is calling on Stitt to retract his statement, while officials with the Freedom From Religion Foundation said he owes non-Christian Oklahomans an apology.
The organizations took issue with Stitt's controversial statements that appear to have been made sometime after he won his second bid for Oklahoma's top elected post on Nov. 8. He is shown in a video posted to Twitter making the remarks in his prayer outside the state Capitol.
"Father, we just claim Oklahoma for You. Every square inch, we claim it for You in the name of Jesus," Stitt said in the video. "We claim Oklahoma for You. [With] the authority that I have as governor, and the spiritual authority and the physical authority that You give me, I claim Oklahoma for You, and we will be a light to our country and to the world, right here."

(60,182 posts)Dear sir,
You have 30 days in which you can appear personally at the statehouse to claim the deed to every square (inch) of Oklahoma, after which time, it will revert to the people who live here.
On the 29th day, an immigrant from Honduras shows up and says "I'm here to claim every square inch of Oklahoma." Startled, the people at the statehouse say, "why? Who in the world are you?"
"I'm Jesús. Jesús Rodriguez Alvarado. Your governor said he claims every square inch of the state of Oklahoma for me, Jesús. I saw it on TV. I'm here to pick up my property. Muchas Gracias."

(22,582 posts)No matter what one's personal beliefs are, it should not be THAT hard to grasp the concept that not everyone shares them and show just a tiny bit of respect for those who don't.
In particular, the holder of a statewide political office looks like a fool when he makes such a public display of his complete lack of respect for those of his constituents who are not also his co-religionists.
