Unless this is another one of those "official" $8 scammer checkmark identities... but they do link to a real NPR article so...@NPR

BREAKING: Donald Trump, who tried to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election and inspired a deadly riot at the Capitol in a desperate attempt to keep himself in power, has filed to run for president again in 2024.

From the article:
"I am announcing my candidacy for president of the United States," Trump, 76, said flanked by massive American flags, at his Mar-a-Lago club and home in Palm Beach, Fla.
The announcement and official filing comes just a week after the 2022 midterm elections, which saw a lackluster performance from Trump-backed Republican candidates in key Senate races and competitive House elections. As a result, Democrats were able to retain control of the Senate.
"America's comeback starts right now," Trump said, claiming, "Your country is being destroyed before your eyes."
The dark vision hearkened back to Trump's inauguration speech of a country suffering "American carnage" and in need of him to fix it.

(26,168 posts)Perhaps they read the room and realized they weren't quite on the same page. The subheading is a reword of the original headline, but I think they edited to be a little more in line with other headlines. That's funny. Thanks for pointing it out.
Wow, the article itself is long. I admit I didn't read anything but the headline earlier, but I will make a point of reading through the rest tomorrow since it's so late. I appreciate the link!

(26,454 posts)We also have a closer, more local station that is very progressive, more so than I am, which carries a few of the same programs as the Buffalo NPR station. Buffalo's local NPR staff are more liberal than the national NPR programs. For example, after the May 14 supermarket massacre of African Americans, the Buffalo local staff initiated a daily program by and for Blacks to address local and national race issues and solutions.
But there is one NPR national program especially that I will not listen to because of its establishment Republican bias. That is On Point with Mehgna Chakrabardi as host.
Other programs, like national news and All Things Considered did zero in depth coverage of the Afghan pullout. Never mentioned how Trump sold out the Afghan government to the Taliban, leaving Biden no options but to pull out or begin the war against the Taliban all over again from the start. They gave no credit to the remarkable achievement of getting several thousand people out of Afghanistan within a very limited time frame that Biden was left with and which he had managed to negotiate a little more time for. To complicate it further, the Trump administration had done NOTHING toward vetting people in advance of the departure date and had actually obstructed the process.
I don't expect NPR or any other media to take a totally Dem bias, but I do expect better factual coverage of events. Instead, they harped on and on for weeks about how BIDEN's sudden departure decision was harming the Afghan people, hurting Biden's ratings, upsetting our allies, etc, etc. Listening to them (and other media) you would think that Trump's agreement with the Taliban never happened and had nothing to to with "Biden's catastrophe." If I could get those facts in online searches, surely NPR staff could have, too.
NPR also continually reported on "Democratic disarray." In the weeks before the midterms, they repeated over and over the red tsunami story and the upcoming disaster for Biden's programs and policies.
But they have been consistent in opposing Trump's Big Lie (and calling it that). They call J6 an insurrection and a violent attempt at overthrowing government and the results of the 2020 election. They call out his lies. So they don't support him or play both sides about Trump since J6, but some of their programming does have a definite establishment Republican bias. That's why I will never donate to them again.

(27,282 posts)such as Brian Lerher's 10A - Noon/ News & Politics is excellent. He, his team, and guestsdelve into BlPOC, LGBTQI, immigrant, sexism issues to the various broader audiences with solid segments and call & tweet ins.
My serious joke is you don't have just listen to Black History (shortest) Month to hear about Black folk's concerns which should be in general our concerns, same for others. The groups in general feel safe enough to call in ask questions, sometimes challenge, and give honest experiences.
He also will extend wirh extra dedicated programing, and call inswhen a sudden very disturbing event(s) are happening to a set person, or group [while attending these issues longtime]
There's sometimes very local NYC issues.
Also fun times as well.
Allison Stewart is a delight, at times bringing a Latin perspective. Serious segments, sometime fun often reflecting issues through culture, and the Arts. Plain fun pieces as well.
Kai Wright's Notes from America is his newly nationalized program (was called United States of Anxiety) a mix of hearing people's stories, concerns on x issues, seeing possible common groub - but also as said taking care of "the unfinished business of America.".
These are my heart recommendations.

I use them for my bedtime story and fall asleep to their genial voices, so generally it takes me two or three days to hear each episode through. I started doing that when my partner was dying and I couldnt sleep at all. CarTalk always stops my brain from fretting.

(90,773 posts)Americas comeback wont happen until trump is destroyed. Figuratively. If literally, thatd only make him a martyr.
I want him to live to face the totality of his defeat, preferably from a position of solid and permanent containment. So he cant do any further damage. And with NO access to the internet. Alive, and silenced. With all influencing potential permanently disabled.
Solitary confinement for the rest of his miserable life. LOTS of time to enjoy the results of what he created.
