Alex Mooney, Republican congressman from West Virginia, announced that he is running against Manchin in the 2024 Senate race. Here's why Joe Manchin doesn't sound like a bad senator, in no particular order:
- In May 2022, the Office of Congressional Ethics found that Mooney violated House Rules and federal law by accepting impermissible gifts and using official resources for personal purposes.
- Mooney supported Texas v. Pennsylvania, a failed attempt to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election.
- Mooney supported the objection to certifying Pennsylvania's electoral votes, as sponsored by Senator Josh Hawley. Mooney claimed that Pennsylvania violated election laws, ignored its constitution and that the "legislature was subverted."
- Mooney voted against both impeachments of Trump.
- Mooney voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act in 2017.
- Mooney goes even farther than Manchin to support the coal industry.
- Mooney voted against the Infrastructure bill.
- In a 2017 interview, Mooney thought that the Trump-Russia investigation was a bad idea, but he also thought that we needed to investigate both Hillary Clinton and Obama.
- Mooney supports the privatization of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
- Mooney supported the GOP block of Obama's appointment of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, but went all in for Amy Coney Barrett when RBG died six weeks before the election.
- Basically, if it's Republican, and especially, if it's Donald Trump, Mooney is all for it!

(29,078 posts)propaganda that has been directed at pretty much all Democrats until recently. I hate the Democrats-are-all-corrupt-by-campaign-contributions-corporate-neoliberals-beholden-to-Wall Street blah blah blah. Thankfully, that bullshit is losing its appeal because it's stupid. Shame on everyone who repeated it.

(12,651 posts)We can do both, because sometimes he does infuriating things.
Sometimes he comes through for us.
ETA: I get it. I understand hes trying to always get re-elected in a solid republican state. Sometimes he has to make the liberals mad and brag about it on Fox News.
