America is still the shining city on a hill

We are not perfect. By any stretch.

But this past election gives me such hope and conviction that we are who we are. An American democracy.

Cheers to the American people!

I always had faith in it, but then I lost faith a bit the past decade, but I needed to look at the long haul. With what happened in the 60's / 70's, we go through these things. But Americans always come around it seems, and it's only because of our democracy. So it's great to see it working....

but I can try to see that. I can try to understand. I'm white and male, so I don't see a lot. But I believe it's worth fighting for.

Why is that. Even when you're at war with us (Russia, etc.), they all still want to come here. Hmmm...

But considering over 90% of tribal communities don't have clean drinking water, no, I don't.
This country was built the mass genocide of my ancestors and the slavery of Black people.
And that continues today.
We have a LOT of work to do before we can come close to countries like Denmark, New Zealand, and the Scandinavian countries.
We consistently rank low in the social safety net.

I spend a lot of my time with the Karuk tribe in northern California. I know them fairly intimately. And I know the history. Let's keep fighting for indigenous rights. They know how to take care of the land.

seems to be from the poster's opinion, in this case mine. It's easy to say something when it's from my own point of view. I really like being challenged by this board, although I don't post much. It's seeing all of the different opinions that makes us stronger. We're nuanced, which is our strength. So thank you, I'm not exactly all that sure.

Justice matters.

I guess I was expecting the worst, and was surprised that democracy came through, even if it was just to stop the "madness". But we have a long way to go, I agree.
