Shit - I've read how, when JFK was running for President, the yowling about him possibly being the first Catholic President and taking his orders from the Vatican, were all over the place! And when he took office, what little I remember (cuz I was pretty young then) was that I never heard him talk about religion - his or anybody else's.

I do remember when I was still living with my parents and we'd be watching TV during dinner, some man would come on the screen - might have been Perry Como or some such, and my mom would pipe up with "you know, he's a VERY good Catholic!" I can remember thinking "what does that have to do with anything?"
