As someone who has been a member of the LGBTQ community since the 80's

Concerning the respect for marriage act:

We have two LGBTQ U.S. Senators who to my knowledge have not voiced any concerns over this bill. Also I believe we have the best Senate (on our side of the isle) that we have seen in my lifetime.

I for one am going to give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to this bill and I encourage all our LGBTQ allies to continue their support for our equality in these United States. I cherish you all, and thanks for the good fight.

The "if I can't have everything, you all get nothing" attitude has never worked in politics, or life.

You live in Florida where DeSatan and his comrades are the governing body. It seems that they depressed the Democrats' votes and the governor believes himself as the second coming. Query: Do you really believe your governor would honor the Senate bill codifying same sex marriage, which would be signed by Pres Biden?

I believe President Biden's army is bigger than Desantis's army.

So, of course there are worries DeSantis will fuck with our marriages, but this is a good buffer. And, like you said, if Tammy Baldwin is okay with it, so am I.

Is that this law is the fall back. It's the fall back if the extremists on the Supreme Court do away with Obergefell v. Hodges. There's a decent chance the SCOTUS never overturns Obergefell v. Hodges.

when I saw the Senate was going to codify the Respect for Marriage Act!

I haven't seen any problems with it until I read your eloquent OP in Support.

Best Wishes for the LGBTQ Community Going Forward! 💙

If that happens, people are better off with this law than without it.

and for that reason, the fact that a lot of people who don't pay attention are going to confuse it with the execrable DOMA of years ago are going to lobby fence sitter Republicans to vote for it.

I haven't heard any objection to it from people who are paying attention. I certainly haven't heard any objection from friends and neighbors, NM is a progressive Wild West state. My vision is crap so I haven't been able to read it for myself.

Anything that codifies and strengthens a civil right like marriage equality against the agitation of various religious frauds is a great thing.

Maybe women will get their bodily integrity back without having to commit suicide to get it if the Democratic trend continues.
