I have a feeling it's going to be a good December
In November of 2010 the Democratic party took a "shellacking" as President Obama put it. Democratic unified control of the White House and Congress would be lost, though the Senate would remain under Democratic control. The post-election period inspired quick action which led to a marvel of Democratic achievements in advance of Republican promises of gridlock and other tea party foolishness. Though many Democrats prematurely turned on President Obama for his agreement to leave Bush tax cuts in place, that anger was mitigated with the bundle of successes Obama rolled out just prior to Christmas. These successes included the New START Treaty, the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, and a payroll tax cut. The link to the transcript of Obama's end-of-the-year press conference is below. I recall watching that press conference while visiting my parents for Christmas that year.
I'm looking forward to a similar December while the adults are still in complete charge. I could be wrong, but I hope not. I sense the Respect for Marriage Act is a sign of the December to come. I wish my parents were still around to see it, but I'll be happy nevertheless.
