When his minions tried to defend it, they put up a picture of Martin Luther, the monk from the 1500's who began he Protestant Reformation in Germany.

🍿VA Governor Youngkin is trying to remove MLK, Jr. from elementary curriculum. His press secretary @macaulayporter tried to claim that wasnt true and highlighted Martin Luther as an example in his response.
This is why were staying on Twitter until the bitter end, folks.

This erasure is so outrageous, and should be getting more media attention. Nicole Wallace had a segment on it, but it was weak, the pundies were afraid to call this what it is.
O Brave New World that has such people in it. (And no, you illiterate right wing nutters, that is not a compliment.)

(82,849 posts)Black children start to value themselves more when they see historic persons who look like them. Not just athletes, but politicians, activists, teachers, and other leaders. And they get to thinking that maybe they're just as good, just as vital to society as the other kids. Gov. Youngkin is just trying to put a stop to that, because if there's anything that offends a fragile White ego, it's Black people thinking they're citizens in full, just like White people.

(53,423 posts)that during the Civil Rights Era when MLK would give a speech or any other public thing, the papers wouldn't use his last name, since as an African American the papers would call him by his given name. So it would be Martin Luther spoke here or Martin Luther marched there. I would have thought by now that stuff died out.

(4,298 posts)real heroes. /Truth crushed to earth will rise again. Calling Native Americans "first immigrants" is white peoples' critical race theory.
Anyone here still think it's not important to teach Dem voters about down ballot voting and voting in state and LOCAL elections?

What the hell? Theyre trying to turn Virginia into Alabama (parts of it already are). I knew Youngkin was bad news, but he fooled a lot of people around here, even in NOVA. These people need to be stopped.

(93,532 posts)I dont think that he really believes most of what he says; hes parroting the party line, pretending to be a warm and fuzzy version of Trump - and DeSantis. Hes no DeSantis, but he would be if the constituents wanted him to be (and - for the most part - they dont).
Youngkin pledged to empower parents (the far right ones, at least) when he was running and he has to fulfill that commitment. Hence the denial of history. Hes trying to walk a fine line between the moderate right and the batshit crazy. I think his real goal is to govern the country, not Virginia. He should not be underestimated.
