I wouldn't say participating in an educational event at a public university meets the definition of crossing a picket line.

(16,470 posts)One I'm familiar with is a federal government employee whose office happens to be inside the private facility where the strike is occuring. The Fed employee cannot strike, and has a duty to show up at their duty station, even if there isn't anything to oversee because of a contractor strike.

(25,989 posts)And UCI is not a federal building. About 48,000 academic workers are striking for better wages n working conditions..among other issues. For his hefty speaking fee, He should have vetted his invitation and realized the issues. As a retired Union member, he should at least make nice..maybe apologize
