He's not Nike.

Special counsel IS the appropriate next step. It reduces the possibility of political bias and is always what should happen in a case like this.

The AG still has rules of ethics to follow even if SCOTUS doesn't.

He just does not want to make the decision. He is not required to appoint a special counsel. And the special counsel will seen just as political as Garland would have been.

..to protect themselves and Trump.

This way investigation continues. Trump will still get off and if re-elected Trump will do it all again and more, never personally suffering consequences. Sweetheart deals for favors will continue.

7. Seems to me that no matter what Garland does, it will be deemed the wrong thing.

Plenty of DUers have demanded he appoint a special prosecutor because they believed - incorrectly - that he wasn't doing anything. Now that he will be appointing a special prosecutor to get the job done without accusations of a conflict of interest, that's wrong, too. Maybe some of the internet message board "experts" ought to apply for that job to make sure it's done right.

10. The correct thing would be to make a decision one way or the other and be done with it.
