Glad to hear that an investigation into Trump will be launched

It's about time.

Now, before you get impatient, remember... it's going to take a lot of time for the special counsel to make sure that the investigation is independent and thorough.

So, don't expect anything soon, since the special counsel is starting with a blank pad of paper as of today.

In setting the plan for the foundation of the beginning of the initial phases of exploring the feasibility of deciding whether the DoJ should think about the possibility that something illegal may have occurred.

His job is to decide whether or not to prosecute. He'll have access to all of DOJ's evidence.

He can’t simply rely on work that originated with someone else.

That misses the entire point of an independent investigation.

Paul Manafort was indicted (and convicted) by a special prosecutor using evidence collected before appointment.

Prosecutors rely on the work of others all the time. Do you think Garland was going to personally investigate and prosecute the entire case without any information gathered by anyone else, including the January 6th committee?

This place just makes me laugh sometimes.

Most of DU does, why not Smith? Sure, he'll review the work already done, but at least the work is done
and he will not be starting from scratch. Like everyone here at DU, I want this motherfucker behind bars.
Fingers crossed.
