I didn't expect ANYTHING to happen to him.
I still don't expect ANYTHING to happen to him.
Today's announcement is absolutely No Surprise to me at all. I fully anticipated this was coming, and I suspect it kicks the can for at minimum 1-2 years.

(131,015 posts)will cause a delay? Nothing changes; the SC doesn't have to start over from scratch. He just picks up the files of the existing investigations and moves them to a new office.

(10,599 posts)This absolutely causes a delay.
Laurence Tribe said so. Glenn Kirschner said so. If this was to be done, it should have been done a year ago.
It's simply Lucy telling Charlie Brown that maybe he'll get to kick the football eventually. MAYBE.
Garland Punted. That's the bottom line. He never intended to indict, and this proves it.

(131,015 posts)He would have kept the cases and just not indicted.

(10,599 posts)I remember how Reagan & Bush Sr. were indicted for Iran Contra.
I remember how Bush Jr., Dick Cheney & Karl Rove were indicted because of Fitzgerald.
I even remember how TFG was held accountable by Mueller.
I've seen this movie before.

(6,913 posts)Like a lot of other people, I am sick of the delay. But resigned to it.
I have assembled cases for trial based on other peoples work. It is not a fast process.

(131,015 posts)will have to get up to speed. But they can do that while waiting for the 11th Circuit to decide the special master issue, since they can't use those documents as evidence in the meantime. That's on an expedited schedule but still will probably take a few weeks. I have no doubt that everyone concerned is acutely aware of statutes of limitations and will proceed accordingly.

(3,513 posts)They were not petty crimes. Rule of law in our country is at state. If he's not held accountable we are in trouble. Magats will multiply. GET THE SOB OFF THE TV!!!

(6,606 posts)Be doomed for this to happen again again. The next one might be smart enough to pull it off.

(10,599 posts)That's why I have grown to despise the so-called "justice" system in this country.
I'm old enough to have been through this Bullshit before. I guess it's just going to take a bit longer until people finally realize that TFG is ABOVE THE LAW.

(3,513 posts)He magically gets away with HIGH CRIMES? A strong possibility. Some dark magic here imo

(2,356 posts)this is not all going away. Not this year, not next, not ever. He will spend what little $ he still has on legal fees, and that's also fun to see.
Probably an entire cottage industry will spring up in the "tRump Litigation Speciality," because IMO everyone who experienced any injury or loss during the Jan 6th incident should be filing civil claims.
So he may never actually pay any price for his many crimes but losing his fake fortune is win enough for me.

(10,599 posts)He has plenty of money, and this won't set him or his corrupt family back too badly.
It's like people laughing at Elon Musk losing money if Twitter fails. He can afford it, and so can TFG.

(17,707 posts)It mystifies me that people think Trump is worried about being indicted. His freaking ego is too big to allow him to worry about it - and so far, at least, hes actually had NOTHING to worry about anyway because nothing has (or will) happen to him.
He has been allowed to outsmart the system.

(3,362 posts)that our social contract of the law is really more a guideline. Poor people suffer. Rich people do not.
I am above the law then too and I have some revenge and criming to go do!

(59,927 posts)And this makes me even less hopeful that it will.

(28,472 posts)A country of laws & all that.
I care about how he's deteriorated our body politic; he's damaged American democracy.
He has set standards that are reminiscent of pre-civil war and banana republics.
I think the country needs justice in order to function fairly. "If tfg can, then...."

(14,486 posts)Its not easy because he is as slippery as a greased pig with so many huge money men providing the grease.
I think their chances are slightly better than even given the crimson colored SCOTUS and the memory of what happened to Tom Delay. (Seventeen million dollars is a nice crooked public servant retirement package, right?)
But get the jumbo popcorn because this circus will probably last awhile.
treestar
(82,383 posts)then the case is not so simple as people make it out to be. "He should have been indicted two years ago" in inconsistent with it taking him a long time to "get up to speed."
His getting acquitted or a hung jury would be quite a disaster. One Magat on the jury and that can be what happens.

(9,212 posts)But I do care. I think death by natural causes is the best thing that can happen. At least he will no longer be a threat. And I don't have to see his revolting face etc anymore. He is so disgusting.
