Well I never knew

A fall on your head can give you a swollen black eye. Its hard to see out of it its so swollen. I am rather morbidly surprised.

Do falls often leave black eyes?
What part pf your head do you have to fall on that would cause this? Curious.

Sorry about the bad hair, scalp hurts when I brush it so I haven't done it since yesterday before I hit the pavement.

From the site of impact but can move. I have had 'floating bruises' before. Glad you are okay though!

Tripped and fell on the sidewalk. Look just like I have been punched. This is from about a year ago. Don’t know why I saved the photo. I will never not believe anybody’s black eye story again.

Mom had a fairly simple surgery on her forehead (skin cancer polyp and roots removed), It was centered above the nose. She got 2 black eyes from that! It was weird.

Hope you feel better soon. Ibuprofen is really good for inflammation.

from a toothache. It took me a while to figure out the cause, and then I realized that the root of the molar was directly under the eye socket. Two days later it was gone.

If you are on blood thinners, and you whack your head more than just a tap, get to the ER for evaluation.

Brain bleeds are a risk for people on blood thinners who whack their head.

I'm on two blood thinners, and I got a 20 minute admonishment from my primary care about this issue.

Hope you feel better soon.

But I got asked if I was by every doc, nurse and tech that was working with me.

I hate to think how bad this would be if I took blood thinners.

Agree, I recently took a fall and hit the same part of my head. I had a concussion and a month later still have a stiff neck and can barely smell or taste anything but sweet. Hitting your head can really cause issues (I’m okay but just speaking from experience).

You can also get blood-shot eyes from it, and dilation of your pupils, even cock-eyed dilation, as in one dilated and the other normal.

Your head is hard, but the stuff inside there isn't. Your eyes are especially vulnerable to any kind of blow to the head. If you look at a anatomy drawing of what's keeping your eyes in place, it's basically the biological equivalent of padding and some rubber bands.

I got the same education you are now after a heavy book flew off a postal processing machine and dinged me in the back of the head. I got the full package of eye trouble from that--the bloodshot eyes, swollen, black, weird dilation--the whole kit and caboodle. Craziest thing, ever.

Do you have someone to check in on you periodically? Head wounds can have some weird after-effects, and it would be a good idea for someone to be making sure you're not unconscious or experiencing other complications.

I had two black eyes, broken jaw, concussion, had to have my nose re-built, and lost some upper teeth.

One of my sisters actually fainted seeing me in the hospital.
