I'm one of those who trusts Garland's judgment and believes Florida Man (aka TFG, Slobfather, IQ45, etc) will be indicted, face mutiple state and federal prosecutions, not be reelected, and be frog-marched to a General Population that will not be at Club Fed. Call me deluded or delusional, perhaps both, if you want. I believe that under the circumstances appointment of a Special Counsel was not only required, but also a good idea. The appointment of Jack Smith to that office is IMO simply brilliant on so many levels. His resume' alone is simply da bomb. But his name. How could you make this up? You couldn't. "Jack Smith" is a name as American as motherhood and apple pie. And he's leaving the prosecution of war criminals at the Hague to go to Washington to deliver justice to the most corrupt and traitorous American politician in the history of The Union. I have a little regret that at age 74 I might not live to see the films to be made of the forthcoming prosecutions, convictions and incarceration. But I know in the depths of my deluded and delusional being, and I rest confident in the belief, that Special Counsel Jack Smith will be the subject of a blockbuster.
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. I am so utterly jazzed.

(319,079 posts)I'm one of those, too.. and Happy to be so.
When I've read the reality articles on Jack Smith about who he is and what he's accomplished I can understand why he was appointed by AG Garland.
I though of that "Mr Smith Goes to Washington", too.

(3 posts)Trump has weasled out of everything for so long and portrays himself to be a victim. I'm so glad he'll soon be answering for trying to tear our country apart. He managed to do more damage in 4 years than I would have thought anyone could do as President.vvvvv
Godspeed Mr. Smith! The sooner the better.

(61,033 posts)a slam dunk case for indictment and IMO, a verdict of guilty as trump had stolen gov docs (still has some) in his possession. There's no denying that and that's a crime.
Too bad, Garland seems to be reverting back to his previous timidity with this special prosecutor move.
INDICT trump already, Garland. The evidence is there. No intermediate, delaying step is needed. Take direct action. He's been caught in possession of stolen gov. docs.

(26,016 posts)Here is the federal law regarding the grounds for appointment of a special prosecutor. It says "will," not "can" appoint one in these circumstances.

Trump has announced that he is a candidate against Biden for 2024. Garland is a member of Biden's cabinet. Conflict of interest.
To those of us who are lay persons regarding the law, the MAL documents do look like a slam dunk case. But do they look that way to an experienced attorney on federal law?

(61,033 posts)nor are Jack Smith's stellar credentials. Classified and top secret documents were revealed in trump's possession when MAL was searched by a lawful warrant. The docs were there, stolen and illegally transported from DC. That's a crime.
There's nothing more to be said. Reality Winner and others have served time for similar crimes. trump is a private citizen, deserving no special treatment. He committed obvious crimes and should be indicted directly. No special prosecutor is needed.
Enough with the delays. Get on with indicting trump directly asap. He's slithered away from paying for his crimes long enough.
