For Musk it is not only Twitter having issues.. Tesla recalled 40,000 cars for steering

issues..

He is a mess, his company is a mess, and it scares me to think his company is sending people to the space station.. or just for a joy ride in outer space.

"Tesla has issued a recall of over 40,000 cars in the U.S. over a potential power steering issue that could increase the possibility of crashes and mishaps. This is the 17th recall for the company this year, affecting over 3.4 million vehicles. Tesla's single largest recall notice in 2022 was issued in September, when the company recalled nearly 1.1 million vehicles in the U.S. over concerns that the windows in those cars could pinch someone when rolled up. Last month, the company issued a recall for more than 24,000 Model 3 vehicles over a seat belt issue

SpaceX is a proven and reliable system. I don’t like Musk, but he doesn’t build the rockets or spacecraft.

but that's a different topic.

Also, Musk didn't build Tweeter, he merely bought it. He also didn't personally build the cars that blow up and have accidents.

9. NASA's track record with spacecraft has been pretty dicey

Check out Artemis, years behind schedule, Atlas using Russian engines. NASA still controls the specs and the testing. If we don’t allow companies to do this, we’ll be an also-ran in space. As someone who has spent years in aerospace as a quality and engineering manager, I can assure you, that the direction is sound.

"Fortunately, unlike the last recall which required the vehicles to be physically taken to a service center to implement the fix, the latest issue can be patched with a software update as it does not require the replacement of faulty hardware. Tesla says it has already started rolling out a software update to address the problem. According to the company, 97 percent of the affected vehicles have already received the update as of Nov. 1."

So it's a "recall" in the sense that a software bug has been found and is being addressed with an over-the-air update.

The visceral reactions some people now have to anything related to Musk/Tesla/SpaceX/Twitter seems remarkably similar to the way people once felt about Steve Jobs. And Bill Gates.

That's not to say Musk isn't an asshole these days, but c'mon, people.

12. If it affects steering and can cause crashes, why would I care?

If it doesn't work right and is unsafe, what difference does it make if it is a software issue or a hardware issue?

A product that needs 17 recalls (so far) in one year has a problem.

IMO many of these "recalls" I'd categorize as pretty minor. "Disabling the boombox functionality when driving" because it could interfere with pedestrians not hearing the Pedestrian Warning System sounds strikes me as one of those falling into that category.

And over-the-air software fixes seem much more preferable than having to drop the car off at the dealer for a recall fix. That's just me, but to each his own.
