(33,643 posts)That he's even closer to ... can't put my finger on who though.
Definitely has a familiar look to him.

(11,019 posts)Seeing this, I'm kind of enjoying all the glamor shots that were getting passed around yesterday. It's just deeply amusing. A special counsel with head shots.

(33,643 posts)But I can't put my finger on who it is ... Smith has a lot more visible eyelids and upper lip than either of these two dudes.
It'll come to me.
Niagara
(11,876 posts)I hear you about the visible eyelids.
I could look at Jeffrey Dean Morgan images all day.

(33,643 posts)As the sinister concentration camp commandant who shot people from his balcony.
He was very, very bad dude in that flick.
He's also 'The English Patient' in the titular role of that film, for which he was also nominated.

(26,220 posts)Had forgotten that that was Fiennes.
He does evil very well.

(11,876 posts)I'm going to assume this was taken at least 5 or so years ago. Not sure if it's a movie still or not. I was trying to find a photo of Ralph that was similar to SC Jack Smith.

Showrunners arguably drug his storyline out a bit too long, but you can kinda see why. He was an absolutely consummate bad guy, played it SOOOO well.

(13,322 posts)My friend whose son works for the justice dept on Trumps stuff has been absolutely quiet on Trumps stuff lately. She must be sworn to secrecy of anything he told her which wouldn't be much. I know he flew in a few days ago to spend holiday with her. Love to be fly on wall because my friend is very progressive and close to son.

(15,638 posts)Smith grew up in Clay, New York, a suburb of Syracuse.[1] He graduated from Liverpool High School in 1987.[2] He earned his Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Oneonta[3][4] and his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 1994. He joined the New York County District Attorney's office after graduation, serving as Assistant District Attorney where he was a member of the Office's Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence Units.[5]
Smith joined the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York in 1999. At the office, he prosecuted the police officers who sodomized Abner Louima, and secured the death penalty against Ronell Wilson, who killed two members of the New York Police Department. From 2008 to 2010 he worked for the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, overseeing war crime investigations.[6] In 2010, Smith was put in charge of the United States Department of Justice's Public Integrity Section (PIS).[1] He spent five years as chief of the PIS, where he prosecuted a variety of corruption cases, including those against Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, U.S. Representative Rick Renzi, New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, and Jeffrey Sterling, a CIA agent who shared national secrets.[7]
In 2015, Smith became an assistant United States Attorney in the Middle District of Tennessee.[8] He served as the acting United States Attorney in March 2017, succeeding David Rivera, and resigned effective September 2017 after the nomination of Donald Q. Cochran.[9] Smith became the vice president and head of litigation for Hospital Corporation of America in 2017.[10]
On May 7, 2018, Smith was named to a four-year term as chief prosecutor for the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, investigating war crimes committed in the Kosovo War,[5][6][8] including the case of Salih Mustafa.[11] He took up the post on September 11, 2018, and was appointed to a second term on May 8, 2022.[5]

(13,071 posts)I can see Gym shitting his pants and rapidly stuttering, meeting him in a hall on the way to whatever fucking meeting he invents. I hope he would carry a barbed wire wrapped bat to such a meetings. Would not be opposed to him using it on a few traitorous pricks. One said chair.

(58,335 posts)He could have been earning big bucks on Wall Street with that Harvard Law degree. Instead, he sought justice for poor domestic violence and sex crime victims for a relatively small salary. There was someone on MSNBC who described how Jack Smith spent the night in the hallway of a woman's NYC apartment building waiting for a reluctant domestic violence victim to convince her to press charges. She did and he convicted her abuser. Dude is intense.
