"SNIP......

“For the first time since Gerald Ford was president, an election has turned control of the Orange County Board of Supervisors over to the Democratic Party,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

“It marks the latest shift in a county so famously conservative that former President Reagan once described it as ‘where the good Republicans go before they die.'”

.......SNIP"

my brother and SIL need to be near the ocean though, i think.

i also have a half uncle who lives there - Bend, OR - and he's as brainwashed as my brother. Plus a friend's daughter from Portland or near Portland who's just as right wing as those people.

From my perspective, OR is not blue enough. But don't think I'm throwing stones - I live in NC, which is hurdling toward being AL or MS as fast as it can.

still homesick for CA after 15 years.

my niece moved from ID to WA to take advantage of the health care options there, but now she has moved back to ID where the people are mostly racist right wingers just like she is. We're able to get along because we don't discuss politics. My sister has Alzheimer's and she's her caregiver so there's no question of going silent they way my brother and I have.

Early childhood was in the Midwest. Then we moved to the East Bay. I’ve also lived on the East Coast and in Colorado. California was great in the 70s when I was a kid. The livin’ was easy, especially for me. And I had a great time bopping around San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley in the 80s. But I never got used to how brown and dry California can get. Not a desert person, I guess. I love the Northwest and will never live in California again.

Supervisor Foley was elected Mayor then and the OC GOP kind of lost its MOJO. They targeted our friend, but she's holding on by a wisker.

Hopefully the OC GOP realizes it can't hold on to power by handing land to developers who don't care about people.
