Trump cannot return to Twitter, even if Elon Musk were to beg him to:

Trump is on Truth Social. Truth Social is his project and his posts and the traffic he generates via his posts are what keeps Truth Social alive.

If Trump were to go from Truth Social to Twitter, he would bring all this traffic from Truth Social to Twitter with him... and Truth Social would collapse because without Trump there is no point in reading Truth Social.

Trump going back to Twitter would kill Truth Social and make Trump like like a loser.

TFG is invested in making Truth Social the next Twitter. Having Musk beg him to come back feeds his ego and to some extent gives him hope that he might actually pull this off.

But, with a person as mercurial as TFG, he may actually jump a rat infested second-hand boat to board a former luxury vessel on fire, taking in water with over half its crew MIA.

Truth Social lost its merger money and Trump’s investors will lose something like 90% of their investments.

Twitter is failing on all sides.

Both platforms will either disappear or devolve into something smaller and less influential. They’re both money-losers.

I still don’t understand why Musk got involved. He’s got enough trouble with his other companies.

Trump, of course, fails at EVERYTHING so TS’s failure was obvious from its launch.

The Saudis don't like their citizens having access to facts and information. Putin can't be happy that Russians can read Tim Snyder and might learn something true about their country's invasion of Ukraine. The Iranian government isn't happy about Twitter. Neither is China.

I don't know. I think it's possible that the Saudis and others tricked another narcissistic fool - this time his name is Elon Musk - into acting as a useful tool.

Trump’s deal with Truth Social makes returning to Twitter complicated
Amanda Silberling @asilbwrites
May 16, 2022

According to a new filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission regarding the Trump Media & Technology Group’s (TMTG) intention to go public via SPAC, Trump has some regulations to follow regarding the competition to his fledgling social network. Namely, when Trump posts a “truth” on Truth Social (yes, posts are called “truths”), he cannot repost it to any other social network for six hours.

These restrictions are likely intended to drive traffic to Truth Social — the app’s daily active user counts pale in comparison to Twitter’s, and getting first dibs on Trump posts could be reason enough to onboard new users.

The document also notes that “[Trump] may make a post from a personal account related to political messaging, political fundraising or get-out-the-vote efforts on any social media site at any time.” But he is “generally obligated” to use Truth Social.

In any case, it’s in the former president’s best financial interest to sway users over to his app. Per this S-4 filing, he will own 46.8% of company voting power and 73.3 million shares of TMTG once it merges with the blank check company Digital World Acquisition Corp.

But seriously folks, there is an error here that cuts across party lines.

That is the error of overestimating the political importance of Twitter. Musk does it. Trump did it (and maybe still does).

I vaguely remember something Charles Schumer said in 2017, sneering at the possibility of a "Twitter presidency".
That's the attitude we should recapture. Democracy does not and should not depend on Twitter.

Political success comes from organizing on the local level. I mean IRL not online.
And there the Democratic Party does very well, and has all along.

We never needed Twitter, though it was nice to have.

Asking them to abandon Twitter would be like demanding they cede territory. They make excellent use of it. Many people on Twitter support them morally and physically because of it. Some people have had limbs replaced or their lives saved because of the efforts of people on Twitter, and some will sleep warmer this winter because of it.
