Alito Is Being Accussed Of Leaking THe 2014 Hobby Lobby Decision

Rights group calls for Samuel Alito to be investigated after claims of leaked 2014 ruling
“A civil rights group issued a call Saturday for US supreme court justice Samuel Alito to be investigated over allegations that the judge leaked a 2014 landmark ruling involving contraception and religious rights at a private dinner with wealthy political donors.

The claim was contained in a New York Times article in which minister Rob Schenck, an anti-abortion activist, said he was told of the decision weeks before it was announced and had used the information to prepare a public relations push.

Schenck also claimed he tipped off Hobby Lobby, the craft store chain owned by Christian evangelicals that brought and won the case allowing privately-held, for-profit businesses to be exempt from regulations to which its owners religiously object, in this case requiring employers to cover certain contraceptives for their female employees.

“The Senate judiciary committee should immediately move to investigate the apparent leak by Justice Alito,” said Brian Fallon, the executive director of Demand Justice”

“Justice Samuel Alito denied allegations Saturday from a former anti-abortion activist that his wife, Martha-Ann Alito, played a role in revealing the outcome of a pending Supreme Court case in 2014. An Ohio woman friendly with the Alitos who was a donor to a Supreme Court-connected nonprofit group and allegedly served as a conduit for the sensitive information has also denied the claim.

The allegation comes six months after a stunning breach of Supreme Court secrecy — POLITICO’s publication of the draft ruling authored by Alito that overturned the landmark, 49-year-old precedent guaranteeing a federal constitutional right to abortionThe decision, which emerged in nearly identical form from the draft in late June, prompted intense scrutiny of the court, heated protests and a backlash that appears to have dulled expected advances by Republicans in the midterm congressional elections earlier this month.

On Saturday, the New York Times published claims from Rev. Rob Schenck around another controversial case — the high court’s 2014 decision about the rights of religious company owners to deny coverage for some contraceptives under Obamacare — Hobby Lobby v. Sebelius. Schenck, once an evangelical minister and prominent anti-abortion activist, has since become disillusioned with the religious right, changed denominations and now says he regrets many of his prior activities.

POLITICO spent several months attempting to corroborate Schenck’s claim published Saturday in The Times of a leak about the Hobby Lobby decision but was unable to locate anyone who heard about the decision directly from either Alito or his wife before its release at the end of June 2014.

Of course one has to wonder if he was also the leak of the Roe ruling.

1. So if Alito is the leaker are there any ramifications? Does it really change anything?

Yes it's unethical shitty thing to do but is it against any law?

Republicans and unethical shitty things have been around forever.

unless there are grounds for impeachment. At this point it makes the case that the court has become political and untrustworthy when in conservative hands.

for ruining Robert's court. Done with spite, IMHO, since Alito has always been very bitter about not being made chief justice instead of Roberts.

There will be nothing done, I don't think. THe House os now in the hands of the cons and the other conservative judges won't want to lose the majority.

7. Justice Alito denies disclosing 2014 Hobby Lobby opinion in advance

Alito is a partisan hack who lies about everything. Alito lied about Roe being precedent and good law. Again, I am not surprised that a partisan hack like Alito would leak this opinion

Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. denied an allegation from a former antiabortion activist that Alito or his wife disclosed to conservative donors the outcome of a pending 2014 case regarding contraceptives and religious rights.

The New York Times reported Saturday that Rob Schenck, who on his website identifies himself as a “once-right-wing religious leader but now dissenting evangelical voice,” said he was told the outcome of the case, Hobby Lobby v. Burwell, several weeks before it was announced. Schenck said a conservative donor to his organization relayed the information after a dinner with Alito, who wrote the majority opinion in the case, and the justice’s wife......

According to the Times, Schenck sent a letter to Roberts in June volunteering the information about the 2014 dinner with the Alitos, which he did not attend. He wrote that the “series of events” that he was disclosing “may impinge on the investigation you and your delegates are undertaking in connection with the leak of a draft opinion.”

Schenck told the Times that Roberts did not respond. A court spokeswoman declined to provide the letter or comment on the progress of the leak investigation......

“The Senate Judiciary Committee should immediately move to investigate the apparent leak by Justice Alito,” said Demand Justice executive director Brian Fallon. “The whistleblower in this report, Rev. Rob Schenck, should be called to testify about both the leak and the years-long lobbying effort he once led to cultivate Alito and other Republican justices.”

Fallon added: “It’s no wonder trust in the Court has hit a record low. Structural reform of the Court, including strict new ethics rules, is needed now more than ever.”

10. I won't be surprised if it turns out he was the Dobbs leaker, as well.

Their whole "investigation" was likely a ruse to gin up anger on the right. Interesting how they never found the leaker, and that the whole issue has disappeared, eh?
