…allegedly

The future twitter might not be?

Edit to add: the removal of trump was a selling point for me. I was not active on twitter until after he was removed.

…anymore than his rants on TS are putting us at more risk of one in future.

People will always be able to find him if they want to. In the meantime, Twitter attracts a large and broad collection of posters on a range of topics. It will be hard to simply migrate that elsewhere.

The January 6 committee suggests that is also the case. Amplifying a fanatic’s speech is almost as irresponsible as the speech itself imho

Click on the more icon (it's three lines or dots, I think)

Then settings.

And you should see a line that says Deactivate my account.

It will want you to acknowledge that it means you can't use it anymore, then one more deactivate and you're done.

I think you have to put your password in as well, to confirm it really is you doing it.

I’m worried with everything that is going on there and a nut cases now owns it. But who knows maybe they’ll get rid of him and someone better will take over… for now It just seems to be even more of a cesspool of hate. And I do believe it it contributed to incitement of violence in the insurrection that was the reason they got rid of dumpster off of there I suppose. Allowing that type of incitement and hatred should be illegal in my opinion.

Twitter never played a large role in my life, I only tweeted a handful of times in about 10 years or more. And I barely ever read anything there. There’s nothing I really want to save from there except my photographs on my profile which I have done. I could not see any sign of it in the imploding. I went there a couple of days ago…what I find really annoying now is the Twitter posts on here if I even touch the area near the Twitter it seems to bring me straight to the Twitter app so I may delete the app. I used to be able to just look at it on the web browser.

I’m also concerned that since I went there both my phone and my iPad are constantly asking me to enter my Apple ID information and I’m worried that something has degraded in their security process since so many people resigned from there. Another thing that happened was I think when I went to look at my profile there it asked me to enter my cell phone to even do that and I was not happy giving that information. That has never happened before there. so I’m concerned that the site could be being hacked into by bad actors.

If a new site starts up which declares itself against fascism and hate speech and really follows through on it by not allowing bad actors such as dumpster I may join it.

but I really don't spend much time there

It's more of a "tool" for me....

As long as the media uses it to break news etc, it will be in my life. If another medium takes over, it will take over.

I could very well decide to delete my Twitter account tomorrow on a whim, or may not. I don't really have much attachments to any social media persona. I routinely delete them and start over. For example, here in DU I probably give myself a fresh start at random about once a year. So, for me, the question is if I plan on continuing to use Twitter. I am certain I will continue to use it because I like debating with people I disagree with.

I'm a light user. I only use it to vent or comment on shows and politics. The platform is kind of a wham, bam, thank you ma'am setup. Talk trash on a hashtag, thank someone, criticize someone without all the formalities and investment that's required on other venues. If I were to be banned, I wouldn't bother to sign back up, but I'm not going to self evict just yet.

I was a co-creator for a writing project earlier this year. My fellow creator is in Australia and I have no idea what’s going on with that side of Twitter, if the international branch there has been just as gutted as everywhere else.

Out of respect for my co-creator, I have not deleted my account, but if she deletes hers, I’m gone too. The loss of Twitter will be devastating to the creative arts, particularly those who relied heavy on self-promotion for their work.

I barely used Twitter at all, maybe posting a tweet once every few months. I used it mainly to keep up with some of my favorite authors.
