Trump -""I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK?"
AND now DeSantis declares that his voters will - "When you stand up for whats right, when you show people youre willing to fight for them, they will walk over broken glass barefoot to come vote for you, and thats exactly what they did for me in record numbers, the Republican governor said to a standing ovation. Weve got a lot more to do, and I have only begun to fight.

Makes one wonder if DeSantis sees himself as the son of the Orange God?

(38,517 posts)Republicans "win" in Florida because they cheat. Their message is exclusive and divisive. Democrats in Florida are suppressed and intimidated. Huffpost doesn't seem to figure those facts into their puff piece.

(19,204 posts)Just grunting out "Murka" now and then seems enough for most of them. Throw in "wall" and an occasional "Antifa" and you're pretty much a right-wing star these days.
Pretty damned sad if you ask me, which no one did.

(10,837 posts)DeSantis is dangerous, a far more savvy and disciplined version of Trump but with the same petulance and vindictive mean streak.

(38,574 posts)Interesting move considering he's probably going to say that he's the proper alternative for GOP voters.

(10,837 posts)GOP leadership and donors are already pointing to DeSantis is the 'reasonable' alternative when, in fact, he's a mini-me authoritarian. Just like the Boss.
What Republicans want is a more acceptable version of the autocratic/theocrat leader, someone who can sell a poisoned package to Americans without all the histrionics. They need a more 'civilized' Trump clone--DeSantis, Youngkin, etc. Doesn't matter who as long as the Chosen One can get the job done.
