I Blame Americans (The People Themselves) For The Proliferation Of Mass Shootings In America......

Why you ask?

I hear that the majority of Americans support gun legislation. I hear even over 90% support background checks.

Well - Americans just had a chance to do something about this - with the recent midterm elections.

They know that the Dems support gun legislation. They had a chance to vote overwhelmingly for Dems - so that the Dems could gain seats in the House and hold the House and also give the Dems a filibuster proof Senate.

They had the chance - and they didn't take it.

So until the American voting public figures that out - that they can be the force that can change gun laws - we'll be saddled with the continuation of these mass shootings.

That is my opinion on why I'm blaming Americans for the proliferation of mass shootings in America.

The way we handled a once in 100 years pandemic showed that in spades.

We're a shithole country, and despite the optimism people here on DU have, that reality is NEVER going to change. Clinton didn't change it. Obama didn't change it. And Biden won't change it.

It's who we are.

MORE THAN 1/2 of Americans VOTED for Biden.

PEOPLE SWITCHED PARTY LINES this election and yet sometimes it isn't who VOTES that counts, but who counts the votes.

AND there are vote counters in hiding because SOME Americans think shooting someone or threatening to kill them is political discourse. YES SOME Americans are tRump-sh*t crazy. BUT NOT ALL.

AND EVEN THEN there has been gerrymandering before we even GOT TO VOTE.

THERE ARE RICH DOUCHEBAGS manipulating our ability to get our needs properly met in this country, but that doesn't mean ALL AMERICANS are douchebags.

IT IS NOT WHO WE ARE AS AMERICANS.

It is PART of our story, true, but not ALL OF IT.

And if you can't see that you are as blind and judgemental as any KKK bast**d out there.

I get being extremely disgusted and thinking we are screwed because we did not get a majority.

It's two more years of dealing with illegal maneuvers and delays when America and the World needs nonstop work on repairing the damage, not causing more.

But if you meet with people who are boots on the ground and know their stories, their pain, their efforts to keep the faith and not give up, you'll KNOW it's not ALL Americans.

Our country has been in this war between have and have nots since it's beginning, but enough of even the original founders wanted it to work for ALL THE PEOPLE.

WE ARE DROWNING IN REICH WING BS, that is true, but beneath that is a country and people who without severe propaganda being stuffed in their faces daily might be able to get along better. We have done better. Not perfect, but better.

The great thing about BS is it enriches the soil once it's put in its place. I think when the rest of US finally see the truth and put away the huge lies, it will strengthen US and make it harder for this to happen again.

Like you, I fear it may be too little too late, but I can't go there.

IT HAS TO CHANGE. Losing Democracy means Civil war and the people who LOVE guns are on the wrong side. If THEY win, they can rewrite history and the World dies because they haven't the brain cells capable of acknowledging climate change and doing something about it.

Thing is, I somewhat understand because if enough people had voted and we had made this a BLUE TIDE at least we would have had 2 years of SOLID work to repair the damage STILL being done by the MAGATS.

We all get discouraged and hate what is going on.

It's easy to blame, but come on, that's the rethug fall back and because they do it, it makes me sick to even think that way.

Lost my job yesterday. Couldn't sleep.

BUT I could have handled it better.

Here on DU we get enraged and discouraged and it CAN SEEM like ALL of AMERICA just doesn't GET IT.

Honestly, we dig and dive and get more information because we work together. OUT THERE?

Due to Covid my BFF and I stopped meeting on a weekly basis. Just started up again.

She avoids a lot of the news her fiance watches. He's in the "listen to everyone" to be fair crowd. Can't tell him the difference between a lie and the truth is a half lie and so still not the truth.

So there is a lot about even the Mar-A-Lago situation she doesn't understand. I pulled back to the basic.... IF ANY OTHER PERSON DID THAT, took confidential company property or items that WERE YOURS while at work without permission, it's called theft.

Explained that those documents were in walk in safes, like a bank safe deposit box and are SO CLASSIFIED they aren't supposed to leave the vault. I wouldn't have known all that without DU and the many sources like Medias Touch, Truth Out, Huffington Post.

Now SHE votes DEM even though she is Pro Life and could buy into the religious REICH sell. Part of it is she TRUSTS ME.

Her fiance is a Jewish man and even has family still in Israel.
Obviously he won't vote for the rethugs who are blatantly anti-semantic, so he voted for the Marijuana Party Candidate.
I guess I will take that.
Just like I think it's HILARIOUS that Sarah Palin ran and was more approving of her DEM opponent than the Rethug one. Sarah Palin is NOT on list of favorite people AT ALL but she drained 67 thousand votes which gives the race to the DEM.

Politics makes strange bed fellows.
You wake up one morning and realize, WOW, Pence didn't fold. Liz Cheney stepped up to Jan 6 BS, Palin slammed her own party.

There's a Chinese curse, "may you live in interesting times" which is kinda where we are right now.

Clinton and Obama had a Republican controlled Congress for six of their eight years. Now Biden. You don't know this? You think they had supermajorities and could've done anything and chose not to? Clinton signed a bipartisan crime bill including an assault weapons ban. The bad things in it were Republican. Then Republicans took over and there was nothing Democrats could do because they didn't have the votes.

I would like an answer. Why blame Democrats?

The DEMs HAVE been doing all we can in horrible situations, but there are OTHER Americans, not just Republicans ACTIVELY fighting against US but people who aren't joining the battle at all.

I suppose if "enough of US aren't strong enough to keep Democracy" we deserve to lose it??????

The KKK in the south keeps finding ways to spread it agenda through the uber rich and they are infiltrated instead of elected, so it is MORE that just what we see on the surface. Like Ginni Thomas. If we didn't have the internet, how many people would know about her interference?

I still object to a wide swath of blame as it accomplishes ZERO.

Well except get a person's blood going.

I'm righteously angryish (sleepy, too).

No, I don't think we "should lose(?)" our Democracy bc there's a big swatch of people not voting.
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

Maybe we need to do more registration drives earlier in the election cycle?

It certainly wouldn't be fair to all who've tried, nor to the the innocent like babies, kids, people w severe dementia, who can't vote but who'd also be victims of authoritarian government.

(and too sleepy to think of anything else off hand 🙂 )

Too many have agendas that do not align with the people they represent and they don't care. So yeah, people vote them in, but then they get zero representation in too many cases.

AND WOULD IT HURT YOU TO PHRASE IT POSITIVELY?

LIKE, "IF AMERICA WANTS GUN CONTROL, THE PEOPLE HAVE TO DEMAND IT> EVERY DAY 24x7 UNTIL IT COMES TO PASS."

We defeated what was supposed to be a RED TSUNAMI and got more DEMS elected and a bunch of MAGAs tossed out.

PEOPLE VOTED AGAINST THEIR PARTY maybe for the first time in decades.

You have a valid point that because we didn't get the majority, we are screwed as far as getting anything done.
I get it.

BUT YOU DON'T BUILD A MOVEMENT TO MAKE THINGS WORK

BY BLAMING EVERYONE THAT YOU WANT TO JOIN THE FIGHT

AGAINST

An individual right to own a gun unconnected with service in the militia?

That was a (2008) lost opportunity to clamp down on this crap.

Instead, the case went the wrong way and sealed our doom.

Scalia, Thomas and Alito, along with Roberts and Kennedy.

Thanks a heap you dopes.

19. I think we have to make the mass shooting issue a central issue
Wed Nov 23, 2022, 11:26 AM
Nov 2022

but often we go along with the rightwing media's framing of what the most important issues are. This year, it was all about inflation, supposedly.

But I don't see why we should not make the mass shooter issue number one, since it's a daily occurrence in this country. It's happening everywhere. Nowhere is safe. We actually have the receipts and video footage, unlike the fake outrage that is sometimes drummed up at the border.

The second step is to clearly identify that WE are the party that will do something about the daily carnage. Unfortunately, a lot of politicians are afraid to go up against the NRA, but if we had clear ads that said: if you're sick of the daily mass shootings and carnage, vote for Democrats. At least try that approach in solid red states where Democrats never win.

What would we have to lose by being very clear and direct on every hot button topic? We support your right to own a firearm, but not the right of 18 year old boys to purchase ARs. I guess we also need to form a consensus on exactly what our proposals would consist of. Do we ban assault rifles entirely?
