Richard Fierro, the Army veteran who tackled and disarmed the shooter inside LGBTQ Club Q in Colorado Springs, is currently receiving a torrent of hate and harassment from far-right extremists.
The far-right has is calling Fierro a groomer and a f*ggot, while questioning his sexuality for being at the Club Q drag show. Others even questioned the veracity of his entire story, according to an investigation conducted by VICE News and researchers at Advance Democracy Inc, a nonprofit that tracks online extremism.
Far-right troll Jack Pososbiec was one of the first people to do this. Are we just not supposed to talk about the US Army Major taking his family down to the local drag club for a night out? Pososbiec asked followers on multiple platforms Tuesday morning, including on Truth Social where he has 960,000 followers and on Telegram, where he has over a million.
Heroes don't take their kids to drag shows, one of Posobiecs followers wrote on Telegram in response.
Others joined in: So a married man, His Wife, Daughter and her boyfriend all go to Gay bar together? Im gonna call bullshit on this, a user on far-right Christian platform Gab wrote on Tuesday.
If its not bullshit hes helping to molest children and hes all for it, another Gab user wrote in response, adding: F*ggot dad in closet.

Fierro seems like a really cool guy. He saved a lot of lives. A lot.

(9,372 posts)I don't believe it has been documented prior to the fifth century BCE ... but at least in Europe all actirs were male until the latter part of the 17th century CE. And certainly the opera repertoire has a good deal of drag, both comic and serious.

(13,850 posts)go to drag clubs, and they have since the 80s. I grew up with right wingers who happily went to these things and wouldn't have blinked about this.
That's why this whole new fever against it is ridiculous.

It's entertainment. And if his daughter was old enough to have a boyfriend, she's old enough to go to a drag show. Hell, she has a BOYFRIEND. What did he do, groom her straight by mistake?
Christ, RuPaul has entire TV series dedicated to drag. You don't think straight people watch that either?

I'm a straight, cisgender male, and I loved every minute of it. The right-wing ghouls and armchair warriors can bite me.

(72,523 posts)I was introduced to Louisville's gay community through my enthusiasm for 'Rocky Horror', which played weekends at the now-defunct Vogue Theater in the St. Mathews district.
I was kind of a misfit in the Army. Even though I was a tanker, I was kind of the opposite of the tanker personality; I was shy, awkward, quiet, liberal, and liked Shakespeare and classical music. Didn't hang around a lot with the other tank crewmen, who didn't know what to make of me.
The friends I made in St. Mathews really made me feel accepted and liked. I started spending all my weekends in Louisville, and hitting The Connection for some entertainment. Not everyone in the gang could go every weekend. But it usually worked out. One of my friends there was a lesbian. Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. We used to sit together so the straight guys not in our group would leave her alone, and the gay guys would leave me alone.
The drag troupe was called Le Boy La Femme, and they put on the most amazing shows. Absolutely entrancing. I was having the time of my life while all the other guys in my Army unit were getting drunk in the barracks and watching pornos.
I should write a book...

(11,767 posts)It is only that fear that creates the hatred in these clowns. Where I live, there were very few clubs where you could go to dance, except two gay friendly clubs and one or two other venues, so I went to those clubs with friends, and I got hit on by gay men. Instead of being insulted and disgusted, I was flattered that someone found me attractive because ... I am secure in my orientation and can appreciate that another person simply found me attractive.
I have been to drag shows too. They are high energy and fun. It did not alter my sexual orientation, nor that of any of the people I went with.
These people are pathetic.

(519 posts)never heard of Finocchio's Club, San Francisco, CA, open from 1936 to 1999. As an eighth grader, on our graduation trip 1968 to to Golden Gate Park and the museums, De Young, National History, Japanese Tea Gardens, etc. Everyone one on the bus talked about Finocchio's club and if we would drive pass it. We all knew it was about men dressing up as women and putting on a show. We all giggled, laughed, because we all knew about Milton Burl and Flip Wilson. We kind of knew what is was really about, but none of us cared. I'm not sure, can't really remember, but I think they had ads in the local paper for Finocchio's club. A few years later Carol Doda ads were all over the place. We were about one hour away from San Francisco. One our trip we didn't see or pass by pass by Finocchio's on the way to the museums.
