(4,437 posts)The supporters of Japan put that energy to good use. That is a big stadium and lots and lots of trash. Setting a good example for any children watching.

(1,766 posts)England and the football hooligans. Philly and drunk Santa. Brian Stow. Philly fans booing seriously injured players. Pacers vs Pistons vs arena attendees. Philly fans throwing up on innocent bystanders during a game. Assorted CA rivalries gone berserk (49ers v Raiders; Giants v Bums). Philly fans assaulting another teams mascot enough to break his leg. Rival players attacked, even stabbed and shot, while playing their games. Philly fans throwing a beer bottle at one of their own side's players.
And that's the short list of the times sports was a means to divide and hate.

(35,622 posts)I was just about to post that, but now I will take the opportunity to tell or remind everyone that Andy Kim won re-election on Nov. 8. We in the teacher's unions were told it was an iffy race (republican area--partly Ocean County) and if we could, to please donate some time to working on his behalf.
Then we were on pins and needles when the third district experienced difficulties with the voting machines on election day.
Andy came to our teacher's conventions to speak and get to know us. We learned about his background and family.
However, it all worked out in the end! Andy won 54.6 and the republican got 44.4.
Tip of the hat to the Japanese supporters who showed the world a lesson about consideration, responsibility, and thoughtfulness.

(21,604 posts)Goes to show the wisdom of voters in NJ's 3rd district.
To think Dems lost several seats by fractions of a % (plus the NY fiasco).
If they shoe were on the other foot, a Repug would be screaming fraud to the four winds - and that the NY Supreme Court had been "bribed by Soros!"

(24,653 posts)My eldest majored in Japanese and spent time there. I assume he's right about this, but open to correction.
After the sarin gas attacks, they removed public trash bins. Japanese are used to taking their trash with them for this reason. Yes, a collectivist society that lends itself to such behavior more so than our individualist one. But I see this and am reminded of senseless terrorism.
I know. Killjoy here. Sorry!
