Reversing the suspensions would mean turning Twitter into a one-stop shop for operationalizing doxing and harassment, and an engine of radicalization, Carusone said. Its a red pill Pez dispenser. And quitting Twitter wont keep you safe. Even if youre not on Twitter, you can still be the recipient of these campaigns, he said. He predicted that public health officials, election officials, journalists and teachers will all be targeted.

(62,658 posts)myself having to deal with in the 1980s, when he was doing a lot of bullying on a platform despite talking constantly about free speech online. That RWNJ's idea of free speech was of course only speech he agreed with, with anyone who disagreed being bullied, apparently in the hope of either drivig them off, or silencing them if they stayed on the platform (silencing them at least on subjects he cared about). Made me sick to see what one narcissistic creep could do to a forum.
Twitter's had problems in the past, but nothing compared to what it's already having under Musk's ownership, and what it's likely to have in the future.
And it's a gigantic platform that countless government organizations, news outlets, businesses and individuals have found useful, in some cases practically indispensable.
Musk is threatening all of that. And he's particularly dangerous because Tesla and SpaceX and Starlink have convinced some people that he's really a visionary genius and not especially political.

(108,977 posts)That problem is Fox and a metric fuck ton of unchecked and unfiltered right wing propaganda. That is the real disease that is plaguing this country. Trump? He's a useful idiot for the propagandists. When he becomes too much of a liability, they'll cast him aside for a yes man like Desantis. But until we start realizing that the propaganda is the problem, nothing is going to change.

(22,330 posts)THIS is all TFG and the religious right insanity! They want the end of times so bad, that they 100% believe this fucker is GAWDS chosen! THIS is what's happening.

(108,977 posts)Until he figured out that he could play the conservatives and the religious crowd for chumps by echoing and amplifying their hatred. It's entirely a product of the fear based propaganda system that controls the GOP.

I guess Twitter is going to be the right-wing conspiracy theorists go-to platform from now on. Way to go, shithead. 🙄 Every decent human being will flee your new toy now, Muskmelon. Congratulations.
