Elon Musk blasts San Francisco's 'far left' views on Twitter as advertisers flee

https://www.sfgate.com/tech/article/elon-musk-blasts-san-francisco-17607597.php

For all of Elon Musk’s promises to advertisers that San Francisco tech company Twitter would be “politically neutral” under his ownership, Musk has veered into explicitly conservative territory in recent days.

Now, he’s brought his criticisms to a common right-wing punching bag: San Francisco. In a tweet Wednesday afternoon, after Thiel Capital managing director Eric Weinstein accused pre-Musk Twitter of "shadow banning" and manipulating “the world’s online conversations,” Musk griped about the purported political views of pre-takeover Twitter.

“It has been really bad,” he said. “Far left San Francisco/Berkeley views have been propagated to the world via Twitter.”

SF values are being permeated throughout Twitter, even now, but not in the way Musk thinks.

SF values in reality - tech money talks.

Yes, yes, we're all very socially liberal here in the Bay Area. But tech and developer money run the show and have for quite some time now. The social liberalism is just what we show to tourists. This town has been about money and tech for twenty to thirty years now, and we have the social problems to prove it. Gentrification and displacement, money thrown at bureaucracies that don't actually solve drug or homelessness problems just so we can claim we're "Doing something!", minority communities going without protection as developers hungrily eye them next and costs of living make it impossible for them to work where they've lived all their lives.

That's the city's values.

The liberalism Musk is decrying, eh. That's just surface appearance. It's all about money and who's willing to play ball with it. So Musk is very much a creature of the culture that runs things here.

Now we all know what he is, and it's not pretty, or particularly competent.
